Well, I must say I love this doctor! He does seem to run a little behind but I can't complain cause he sees all the patients on a one-on-one basis. Ryan went in first to meet with him and then sent for us. He said he obviously is ADHD and had him take a test called TOVA, which helps him decide what strength of medication he should take. It was a two-part test and we seemed to be there for a while. In the end, he said there was an improvement from him being non-medicated to taking 45 mgs of Concerta, but not at the desirable rate it should be. So he upped it to 54 mgs and we will see him in 2 weeks.
My instincts were correct, he does not have a mood disorder. The doctor tells us his behavior is related to ADHD but it does not seem to be any type of disorder. He also said some of the signs of OCD can be partly because of ADHD as well, but we are to see if they still exsist after taking the new dosage. If it seems he still has the OCD symptoms, then he will address them on the next visit.
I am so relieved that it is nothing more than ADHD though and it was a good thing I decided to switch doctors. The other one I had didn't want to listen to our concerns.
Thanks a lot, girls! It was pretty expensive for those two tests (the same one but one without meds and one with meds) but I am pretty certain they will be worth it. He seems to be doing pretty well on them although he has only had it one day (we don't medicate much on the weekends. We want him to feel normal on those days he isn't in school.)
