We were doing IR ritalin so it was a 4 hour dose that I gave him 2x a day. We are now on Metadate ER (which is generic Ritalin) which is an 8 hour dose. The doctor offered a 12 hour but I only wanted Corey on an 8 hour dose. I want him to practice life skills of controlling himself the other 4 hours even if it drives me crazy I also want him to eat better and have it entirely out of his system by bedtime so he will sleep.
I have noticed that he is better behaved even after his dose wears off then when he is completely unmedicated. I can tell the dose has worn off but he disposition is better. I believe it to be from the positive interactions he gets at home and school while medicated put him in a better mood.
My son is on a 6 to 8 hour dose of Focalin 15mg. We give it to him about 30 min. before he catches the bus and by the time he gets home you can tell it is starting to ware off. We were offered a second dose for after school but we don't think it is necessary.. Even when it starts to ware off in the afternoon, he is still much better than with out the medication.

We had them on Vyvanse which was about 12 hours. But we switched them to back to Adderall ER which is 8 hours. (due to insurance) One of them is also on Strattera which I think is supposed to help 24 hours?? But not sure on that.
