New here but not to JM with a couple questions

I was on Add medicine as a child and my sister was on AdHD medicine. Now I have an almost 3 1/2 year old son. He's been seeing a behavior therapist, and the therapist thinks my son is Adhd. (He doesn't follow through with simple tasks, very distracted, forgets their cleaning up, is constantly moving from one thing to another in like 2-3 minute intervals)

Some of this I know is typical preschool/3 year old. But I'm trying to figure out what to do. The behavior therapist, said to try him on non-stims to see if it helps him.

He's not focusing at preschool, runs around, doesn't listen, very very hyper.

We tried 1 2 3 magic with him but he kind of tunes things out if he doesn't like it, so I'm not sure what to do. The thinking chair at school/time out at home doesn't work either.

Do you all have any suggestions of what might work? I really don't want him on medication if I can help it.

3 years old seems kind of young for them to even suggest anything, I have 2 boys that are ADHD and Tyler was diagnosed at 5 and Austin at 7, normally they don't start evaluating or suggesting anything until like 5 years old?
I wish I had some advice for you, I know without meds both my boys are out of control and it's so hard. 123 Magic didn't work for us either.

Thanks. Yeah. Thats why I was surprised when the behavior therapist said she's almost positive he has ADHD.

He's got an appointment with the a psychiatrist who will evaluate him for ADHD. Then I guess go from there.

when is his appt? make sure you bring up any concerns hun and go with your gut instinct.

His appointment is for the 9th of June.

Im not sure if I should let them medicate him if he does have it or see if he outgrows it as he gets older.

I don't know what to say, but I'm feeling less alone during my battles now! My son is the same way, and we also tried "123 Magic" and time outs do not work 99% of the time.

I am glad to see that I am not the only one 123 Magic did not work for. I have told other people it didn't work and they were nasty about it and said I must have done it wrong then.

His pediatrician won't give him medicines. But he did go to a place that does check/test for ADHD/ADD today. The appointment was actually for today. We have to do the equivilent of an ages and stages eval and so does his school. Then they'll go from there.

'Time outs' don't work. Neither does 123 magic. Neither does taking his favorite toy/toys.

I had to start doing- Nose in the corner, hands behind the back, time out for it to be effective and I *hate* doing that.
