I just wanted to come in and introduce myself. My name is Lindsey and I have 2 children, a DS who is 9 and a DD who is 8. My son was diagnosed at 6 with ADHD, but we did not recently make the decision to put him on meds until earlier this year when his teachers threatened to kick him out into special classes because of his behavior (which really is just mildly annoying, not that bad).

Anyway, before we tried special diets, vitamins, exercise, sports, etc. and nothing helped. He started out with Vyvance, but he completely stopped eating on it and lost 10 lbs in less than a months time. So we took a break from the meds for the summer (the day after we stopped his meds he ate like a grown man pounding the food away). We just started him on Staterra and while it does help a little bit, it barely only takes the edge off. We might have to up his dose.

Anyway, he just started telling me that no one wants to be his friend because he is so wild. The lady across the street old me that her son is afraid to hang out with him at school because he does not want to get into trouble. I guess it just hurts as a mother to hear that.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I am glad to have found this part of the forums!

I guess these boards are not active at all. I was really hoping to connect with people who understand what we are going through.

Yeah, they are not that active unfortunately. But welcome to this group.. It does hurt hearing those things about our children.

My son hasn't started any meds yet, they say he's too young.. but when the time comes, we will choose to try meds.. no shame in that! Maybe working with your son's dose will help balance everything out better.

I see that. Kind of a shame that not too many active members on here.

I feel you on the too young part. We knew there was a problem really early on, but didn't start meds until he was 9.

I wish this board was more active too, there are so many kids out there with ADD/ADHD and it's so hard to find support for the parents.
we can be our own little group!

yes, we tried all sorts of things before using meds. Some things are helpful at some level, but it just wasn't near enough enough.

My daughter also has Sensory Processing Disorder and anxiety (diagnosed at age 2). I'm fairly new to the ADHD thing!

Hi, I'm Linda, like you never knew this board existed. I feel for what you are going through, I am going through something similar with my little girl, who is already having issues in Kindy.

Missy thanks for the invite back! Yes my DS has really bad ADHD. We just upped his dose of Straterra. So far so good (although it does wear off around 3 or 4pm). Every day is a constant struggle, especially with everything going on with the rest of my life. I just want him to be normal so that he can fit in. I just feel so bad for him at times. No one really wants to be around him non medicated, including family.
