Dr. suggested Melatonin for sleep problems with our 4 year old with ADHD. The only problem is he goes to sleep fine.. burns himself out @ 8. Problem is he wakes up during the night.. and worse is up at 5am for good! Has Melatonin worked for your similar sleep problems ? Thanks so much.. my son is currently not on medication. Thanks so much!
I tried both of mine on melatonin at one time and it helped them fall asleep but then they were up in the middle of the night. But I know many people who have had success with it.
Melatonin is really only good for helping you fall asleep, it won't keep you asleep. But then again you never know how he will react. My opinion would be to try it, if it works great but if it doesn't work just stop giving it to him. Or try giving it to him when he gets up in the middle of the night. It won't make him go to sleep if he isn't tired though so not sure if giving it to him at 5 would help any.
Sorry don't have any better advice.
My son has been taking it since july he had a prob going to sleep not wakeing up and it is a god send IMO. I no longer sped 1.5 hrs fighting him to go to sleep so make the home calmmer and happier. I say tried it, it cant hurt good luck and happy sleeping
Melatonin has worked miracles for my son. He is 10 years old and has always had problems falling asleep. We give one 3mg pill at 8pm and by 8:30 he is ready for bed. Before melatonin he would lie in bed for hours before falling asleep and getting ready for school the next morning was always a battle.
