My son is on a home schooling program run by a couple at a little private schooling facility. Their son is ADHD and Autistic and they have so much patience and understanding, my son couldn't be in a better environment.
We have been blessed that both my son's first grade and his current second grade teacher both got it. His first grade teacher had a son with ADHD and his second had a close brother with it. Today is a perfect example. My child went to school without his medication patch on. (My fault). His teacher notice the issue this morning and sent him to the nurse to check to see if his patch was on or get a new one. Unfortunately his patch was gone and the nurse had used the one spare I leave at the school and didn't tell me. So the school calls me and tells me what's going on and I offered to pick him up but said the choice was his teacher. She kept him all day and used several stratigies to keep him separate from the rest of the class and occupied. Apparently he sung/hummed/talked to himself all day but basically stayed in one area and only shredded an eraser. Bless her.
It sounds like both of you have really wonderful/patient/awesome teachers for your kiddo's. Alex's teacher is great and totally gets his issues, its Katie's teacher who really didn't get it at first but after teaching her some ways to handle Katie, she is doing a whole lot better (she was really open to listen to the advice I gave her and put plans in action to make Katie successful in the classroom).
I have to say that Hailey has a really awesome and understanding Kindergarten teacher who is very involved in the process in helping Hailey figure out what was going on with her and finding if she indeed was ADHD. If it was not for her being so patient with her I think that Hailey would be lost if she had another teacher....her teacher is GREAT!!!!!
