Very pleased to have found ladies going through the same, well - hell (sometimes).
Our 8 yr old DD has impulsive ADHD with sensory processing disorder, PICA like symptoms started at 18 months old along with other sensory problems and the ADHD came in full strength in 2011, oh how i wonder how we got through 2011!
So, now we have desicions to make now she is diagnosed on medication so will be reading through old posts to see what everyones experience is with it.
Welcome Gemma!! I'm so glad to meet you. My ODS has autism, SPD and ADHD and I have to agree with Laura, occupational therapy (he hasn't had physical therapy so I don't have experience there) has been so helpful in dealing with the SPD. But you have to make sure that the OT is well versed in sensory integration therapy or it is useless. I have no doubt that my younger two soon to be adopted children will also be diagnosed with ADHD as it usually goes along with their diagnosis's and they both show all the symptoms already.
My ODS has a huge need for oral sensory input, therefore he always wears a chewy tube so he doesn't try to chew on everything (his clothes, jackets, toys, etc). Before those he would chew on everything but he never actually ate it, he would just chew on it than spit it out.
As for medication, all I can say is that it has made a huge positive impact on my life, I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 9.
I look forward to getting to know you.
