Good morning ladies! My name is Leyna, 27, from Ohio. I'm pregnant with my second little man due for my repeat csection on Friday. I was hoping to attempt VBAC, but my body just doesn't want to give birth the natural way (I'm finally accepting this). Anyway, I have a few questions for those of you who have had a repeat section. My first csection was an emergency one after 24 hours of labor...I started running a fever, so they were worried I had an infection. Long story short, my csection was a pretty traumatic one for me. The spinal (ontop of the epi I received during labor) seeped up pretty far and I felt as if I couldn't breathe. This put me into a huge anxiety attack, and ended up getting some sort of medicine that made me feel like I was knocked out after my son was born. I missed everything! The only thing I remember was his cry, but I don't remember kissing him or seeing him. He ended up having a few issues that required him a short stay in the critical care nursery. I was pretty depressed with the outcome of my delivery for months...

Anywho, here are my questions:

1. Was your unexpected csection completely different from your repeat or was the experience the same?

2. Did anyone have any breathing issues and how did you stay relaxed?

3. Can you please point out the positives of the repeat compared to the emergency if you had one?

4. My section is scheduled for 7:30 a.m., if you had a morning section, when were you able to get up and walk?

5. Any pointers for me that you would please share to help calm my nerves....thanks!!!!!

Hi there! congrats on your upcoming baby!

My 1st was emer. I was put completely out..

My 2nd was a planned and def. diff. cuz I was awake...I kinda like that I knew exactly what was going on ..got to hear baby's 1st cry & see her in the 1st few mins after she was born...

My 3rd was the same except for diff. parts of the surgeries didn't go very well..with the 2nd one the spinal took 45mins for him to get it in...with the 3rd the spinal went great but they took so long to get started & finish that I felt the last cpl stitches ..guess I lost alot of blood too..

I'm a bad one for nerves before the surgery..I start to shake from head to toe...funny enough I'm completely still for the spinal...after that then it isn't too bad...I just try and focus on waiting for that 1st cry & then seeing what's been kicking me for the last 5mos lol

It's been 15yrs since my emer. I always thought they put you out for an emer. one...things must be changing...I'm so sorry your 1st went the way it did...I'm sure your 2nd birth will be much much better...sending you T&P's!

I havent had my second one yet but my first i was given general and was out the whole time. I have many of the same questions you do but i did watch a video from my hospital that talked about the spinal and the breathing thing...they said that if you have issues with feeling like you arent breathing that it may help to watch your chest move up and down or have the person in the room with you place their hand on your chest so you can see their hand move...I fear this part too...but many many women get through it ok.

well your baby is here by now Congrats but I'll answer anyways since other people may be wondering the same.

1. Was your unexpected csection completely different from your repeat or was the experience the same?
The procedure was way different but the recovery and that was the same.
My first was an emergency so it was very very quick. My second was a repeat elective c-section so it was much calmer. They took their time to explain everything to me and help me be calm

2. Did anyone have any breathing issues and how did you stay relaxed?
I just had a mini panic attack but the OB calmed me down.

3. Can you please point out the positives of the repeat compared to the emergency if you had one?
more relaxed,no fear for baby's safety, being more there for the delivery

4. My section is scheduled for 7:30 a.m., if you had a morning section, when were you able to get up and walk?
my baby was born at 10am and they said I could walk by 5 pm. I didn't because i was still very dizzy though. I didn't feel ready to walk until about 11pm

5. Any pointers for me that you would please share to help calm my nerves....thanks!!!!!
don't be afraid to tell the staff how nervous you are.
