Hello, ladies! I'm pregnant with baby girl number 2 and due September 3rd, but will be having a repeat c-section at the end of August. My first daughter was born via c-section in October of 2006. Initially, I wanted to try a VBAC with this pregnancy, but I have opted for a repeat C-section for various reasons. The main reason that I DID NOT want a repeat c-section is because I would like to have another one or two babies after this one. I was under the impression that I would be very limited to the number of children I could have if I were to have them all via c-section.
So, my question is how many c-sections have you had? Is there really a limit to how many children you can have?
I've only had 1, with my daughter. If we have any more and still live here I will not be allowed a VBAC our hospital refuses to do them . But I've herd of women having 5-6 c-sections just fine with no complications.
There are women in this forum who have had 5+ sections.
As for the number allowed, I believe it depends on the doctor's policy, and the condition of the mother's uterus.
My doctor doesn't set a limit. He takes into consideration the health of the mother and the condition of the uterus. I've had 4 cesareans, who no complications.
It depends on how your surgery goes and how your uterus heals, as well as your doctor's mentality on the issue.
When I was in recovery from my second c/s, the OB mentioned that It may not be a good idea to have any more children. I had a pretty extensive vertical tear during surgery and I lost a lot of blood and they were worried that I may need a transfusion for a while. However, when I went for my 6 week PP visit, he told me that he'd prefer if I wait at least 2 years if I want to have any more, but since I healed so well, he doesn't see a reason that I can't. He would recommend an early scheduled section though (probably before 39 weeks) to avoid as much contracting/laboring as possible. Then, depending on how the surgery went and how the scar tissue and the condition of the uterus looked, we'd talk about the possibility of a fourth.
Someone with less complicated surgeries wouldn't have those restrictions at all, and someone with more complications may be advised not to have more children at all. kwim?
C-section #4 here..due Sep. 14th ..I'm guessing prolly schedule it for the 1st week of Sep. ...I have no idea the shape my uterus is in lol ...noone has ever really told me anything...but this is my last one..cuz me & DH are both def. feeling done lol...
My dr told me most don't recommend more than 3 but like everyone else has said all kinda depends on how you & your dr. feel
I'm so happy to hear that so many of you ladies have had 3+ c-sections! It makes me very hopeful. I had zero issues with my first c-section (other than the pain, OMG!), no infections, no complications. I'm hoping that the second one will be as "easy." I know I should be thankful for the children I have (and i am!), but I can't imagine only have two..
I'm having my third c section in July. My dr never really gave me a restriction, because I heal wonderfully & with no complications so far. I am however, getting my tubes tied, because I'm done having kids. On a side note, My first c section was at the end of Oct. 2007, second was early may 2009 & this one mid july, so, 3 sections in less than 3 years, and I'm still being scheduled for 39-39.5 weeks. I think it would depend most on your uterus and how you recover :0)
