I've only had one (scheduled), but it was sooooooooooo bad!!! I still get a sort of pulling "twinge" in the scar area, but the really bad pain lasted 3-4 weeks. I had to sleep sitting in a chair for about 2 weeks, elevated for 2 more, needed help in/out of the shower for 2-3 weeks, couldn't move faster than a snail's pace for 3 weeks, was CONSTANTLY in crying/screaming fits (not sleeping!!) over the pain... it was horrible! I was in so much pain, but at the same time I was depressed that I was unable to take care of Ben. My doc changed my prescription several times, but nothing worked. The only thing that took the edge off the pain (for the first hour after taking it, only!) was 2 percocets with 2 motrins every 4 hours.
1. Not too bad
2. Easier than expected
3. 1-2 weeks. 2 weeks after we went on vacation and I was able to funcion normally-well as normal as you can when sleep deprived-lol.
I had had previous abdominal surgery before tho, so I really knew what to expect.
I'm not really sure how to answer since i had no expectation of how to recover from a c-section. I was going for a vaginal delivery. As a result, I thought recovery sucked big time. However, when I compare my experience to other women's, I seem pretty average. Women who brag about an easy recovery talk about doing laps the following day around the nurses' station and how they were shopping the following week. Well, I did that. I went shopping on the way home from the hospital. I still think the recovery sucked!!!
I'm a poor example to go by... I had been on long-term opiate medication and there's always a pain control issue with those kind of folks. Plus my baby died. Plus my Methadone dose had been cut in half while I was at the hospital, unbeknownst to me, thus causing severe withdrawls. Plus I developed a hematoma along my incision. But I voted anyways.
I had an amazing experience with my cesarean. My doctor wrote me a script for Percocet but I opted for Motrin instead - I only took it about 5 or 6 times. The only pain I experienced was the day after my surgery when my mom made me laugh hysterically; other than that, I only felt mild discomfort. I did get a bit sore and my incision felt very itchy and as if it were tearing when it was healing, but that's it.
They had given me 2 different drugs one of which was Tylox the other was Acetomenophin. Well, Tylox looks just like Tylenol from the store so I mistook the meds. I took the tylox every 2-4 hours and the Acetomenophin every 4-6 hours. My head felt like it was floating and the room seemed to spin when I turned, so I was in hog heaven for about a week until I realized what was happening. I do not reccomend that to anyone, I was so worried that I harmed my son in some way because I was breastfeeding, but luckily everything turned out good.
1. The worst thing I've ever experienced! I had a painful early emergency c-section after I was already 7CM dialted!
2. Much harder than expected!
3. I forced myself to feel ok because my babies were in the nicu so I HAD to feel better. But really, my incision hurt so bad on my left side that I would cry all day long, even on Vicodin and worry I would never be OK, Like I was splitting open or something. Especially after standing for 10 minutes or longer...this pain lasted 2 weeks...I was afraid it would never end....but then it did, overnight...Phew!!

but mine was on the right. The nurses told me it's because a clean cut heals faster than a tear to the muscle. When they cut across, they try to make as small an incision as possible. Then the assistant/nurse uses those (whatever they're called?! big metal spoon-looking things) to hold the incision open while the doc pulls the baby out. If the incision wasn't quite big enough, they pull the hole open using those spoon thingies which makes a minor tear in the corners of the incision. OUCH! Ben had a big head and it was in there at a weird angle, so I'm sure that's probably what happened to me. I'm really hoping the next one won't be as bad!
Edit... The doc told me it might also be a knot from an internal stitch rubbing up against the skin and causing irritation. She used a single, long stitch with a knot at both ends.

3. A week or less, I only took the pain meds for the 3 days I was in the hospital. I only took one tylenol at home. I was feeling 100% by day 7.
i voted by my first section and i must say,it was just all bad but then again i was only 16 and had cried at the sight of a needle lol.my 2nd and 3rd were pretty good and i only took the percocet for 1 day after that advil or nothing for about 1 week ,then i felt fine.my right side hurt the most with all 3 for some odd reason.
I had an emergency C-section, but it couldn't have gone better if I tried. Pain was at a minimum. I only hurt when I coughed or laughed or tightened my abdominal muscles the first few days, didn't need pain meds after I left the hospital, and it was SO MUCH easier than I expected! Scar healed perfectly and besides a slight numbness on the scar line it's perfect!

A Week or less.
My experience was great! I felt wonderful while I was in recovery. When they took me to my room, I actually wanted to get up and walk around but the nurses wouldn't let me. The next morning I was up walking around and felt fine. The only time I hurt was when I laughed or coughed. Other than that I was fine. It was a little sore when I would stand up or sit down, but nothing major. The nurses said they had never seen anyone do as good as I did. But I felt great.

my csection wasnt bad at all. i was able to walk around, though haltinly and the pain was managable. since i breastfeed i went for as long as possible without any meds. there was only one night i REALLY NEEDED the percocet and that was after i walked alot that day since i had a ton of visitors. when i got home i was prescribed regular old advil and that was all i needed for the pain. and getting the staples removed was a piece of cake.
when i think of my csection the only negative thing i feel is that no one told me about the SWELLING i would have afterwards. my legs swelled up so bad i couldnt even fit in my stretchy maternity pants and my family called my feet "fred flintstone feet" that is also why i couldnt walk so well. but besides that is was a rather positive experience, considering i missed the chance for a vaginal birth.
I had a C-section on 6-6-06. I really expected to be in a lot of pain, but I was up and moving around right away. I still am relatively pain free. We have been out on walks every other day for the past 2 weeks. I do tire out after we get back but that is to be expected.
My first c-section wasn't too bad. I was out shopping after about a week. I felt competely "normal" after 3 weeks. My 3rd how ever was by far my worst!!
I went off the really hard pain killers after about day 2 of being home. I started taking Ibuprofen every 8 hours as needed and was fine. I had the same recoveries with both of my c-sections. They both went great, no problems whatsoever and hardly any bad pains, only if I exerted myself too much that first two weeks PP or if I moved certain ways it would jolt the incision area, but that was it. I seriously think my tonsillectomy at age 20 and having my wisdom teeth pulled a few years ago was worse than my c-sections were.
