So I had my first baby via c-section on June 10th. I am sort of terrified of getting pregnant again too soon because I want to make sure that I am nice and healed up, so it got me thinking.... when did you TTC after a c-section? Did your Ob recommend a different time frame than what you followed? Did you have any issues with you incision scar?
DH and I were originally going to wait 6 months before TTC, but since I needed a c-section I am not sure anymore. I have read that it takes a full year for the body to heal up after a c-section... not sure if this is true or not.
Yes...at my 6 week apt after having my baby, the dr said several times to me that it is best to wait a year before getting pregnant again. She said that although the chance of uterine rupture it small, it is there and a very real chance of happening. Ive talked to many people who say that even after 6+ months they still have numbness and occasional pain at scar area, which tells me body is not yet 100%. and with second baby, uterus and muscles stretch faster which is why you show sooner than with first baby.
But at the same time, a friend of mine got pregnant again after only 2 months and everything is fine.
Since I was a high risk pregnancy that ended in an emergency c/s, I was told to wait at least a year before TTC #2. It was more of a precaution for me than future kiddos. When in doubt call your OB that performed your surgery, they know best!
I was also told a year when I had my C-section (in the hospital they told me). My C-section is almost a year ago. Funny thing is, I just went to my annual checkup and asked when I could start ttc and the Dr was kind of surprised that I asked him. He said anytime now is good since I was healed nicely. I definitely wanted to wait the year to give my poor body enough healing time. And I think I will wait a few extra months and then start ttc again.
Personally, I think you will know when your body feels right again. For me it did take a while, b/c of the hormones raging (from bf).
