So I found out I'm pregnant 2 days ago...haven't told anyone but my dh yet, and won't for at least a few weeks.
This will be my third child - both of my last two were c-sections, the second one I had a window in the uterus and almost ruptured.
Needless to say, I am now seeing a high risk doctor who will not let me go past 37 weeks - I will have a scheduled c-section then...

Now I knew this before I got pregnant, and this pregnancy was most definitely NOT a mistake - we were TTC for 6 months and when I got the BFP I was sooooooooo excited yesterday and today. But now, reality starts to set in, and I must tell you I'm SO scared.

With my first two I was trying for natural (and V-BAC) but now, I KNOW how its gonna b, and I KNOW how its gonna hurt and I'm SCARED!

Anyone else having/had a scheduled C? How do you calm your nerves?

Also, with my second, the anesthesia wore off mid-surgery (it was a spinal) and they had to knock me out...I'm PETRIFIED about going through that again - anyone have similar experience? Any ideas on ways to avoid it?

Just to clarify - SOOO excited to have another baby but SOOO scared of the c-section...

Hi and congrats on the pg! I have not experienced all the things that you have, such as the window or almost rupturing but I certainly share your concerns of the c-section. I will be have my 7th c-section in June, my last one was 8 months ago. As far as my ob said I have very little scar tissue and maybe small thinning if any, she wasn't concerned about a repeat if needed... which we thought it would much later if at all but here we are. I was terrified with my 5th which was 7 years after my 4th, but it all went fine and then my 6th came along this April and I was even more terrified. Thankfully hers went along without issue as well. The scheduled c-sections generally go much smoother than one that wasn't planned, everything is set up, the dr and nurses are ready and it's pretty calm and routine really. You can ask your ob the morning of the section for something to calm you before the surgery, that helped me. Although I am not sure what they gave me, but it was safe for the baby. I would also sit down with your ob now and talk to him/her about your fears, I am sure they can explain to you what will happen and help you feel much more calm, plus you are seeing the high risk specialist and that is their job to make sure mom and baby come out just fine. I'll keep you in my prayers for a healthy pregnancy and delivery!

Thanks for the reply, I have my first visit scheduled for December 30 - when I'm 8 weeks...so I will definitely be talking to my OB about this then...
Mine's going to be in mid-late July...my last one (which was very traumatic and surgery lasted over 3 hours) was 2 1/2 years ago, so by the time I have this one, it will have been over 3 years since the last surgery...
I think part of the nerves is also that I don't know my doctor yet - I was SOOO comfortable with my last OB, but after all my complications, I had to find someone else...
I just can't imagine what it will be like the week and especially the night before surgery - i doubt i'll sleep AT ALL.

I hope it goes well at your appointment, update when you can. And yes sleeping the night before the c-section isn't going to be happening with this momma either lol.

1) Request epidural anesthesia instead of a spinal. It delivers continuous medication and the anesthesiologist can increase the dosage at any time during the procedure without putting you under general.

2) Request ambien from your OB so you can sleep the night before the surgery. My midwives gave it to me (per my request) the night before my induction with my first child, and it's the only reason I got any sleep bc I was terrified.

I had a window with my last pregnancy. My OB said as long as I dont hurt with my braxton hicks contractions, he will be delivering me at 38 weeks. I am on modified pelvic rest but its not stopping me they should have repaired the window when they were closing you up. Try not to worry, they try to make it sound worse than it really is
