As soon as possible. It depends on the circumstances. High risk deliveries usually take longer to reunite with mom. Routine deliveries are as soon as you get back to triage. You'll see/touch/kiss the baby in the o.r. before it's taken to the (much warmer!) nursery with dad to get cleaned and weighed. You're able to sit up in triage and breastfeed if you'd like. It took longer for me because Ben had some deformities being checked over by the on-call ped, and his blood sugar was in the 40's (I had g.d.). They brought him to me for just a second, but I couldn't really hold him because I was knocked out for the c/s and was too weak. I really didn't even care. I was so drugged that I don't remember the first couple of days at all. That's not normal. You'll probably see your baby right away.
I held him after I got out of recovery which was about an hour after my c-section. They had the scale and a warmer in the or so I got to watch the nurses clean him up while the doctor was closing.
In my hospital, the baby is shown to momma and given to daddy. Then they walk back to mommas room with the baby and do everything there. We don't have a nursery or a NICU, but the hospital that has all that is only 15 mins away. I prefer to be at the nicer, smaller, homely hospital. Then you can hold the baby as soon as you are in the room. Dad usually has the baby by then.
They show you the baby when they pull him out. Then after he is wrapped up they give him to dad who brings him over so you can get a good look, touch kiss, snuggle a little. I only spent about 30 min in recovery, they let me finish recovering in my room since I was doing well. They were finishing in the nursery with him when I was wheeled by, my mom was taking video and DH was with him. They brought him into my room immediately and after I was transferred to my bed I got to hold him. It was at most and hour after he came out.
I got to see DD only minutes after my section ( DH was holding her) and I was in recovery very soon after with her. I think it was only 15-20 mins after she was born I was holding her. They handed her to me before wheeling me into recovery. They did al the t=routine tests and weighing while they were closing me back up so once they were done she was all mine!!

Thank you aprilmiracle for my siggy!
with my first one I had an emergency cs and didnt get to hold my daughter for about 5 hours
I went into natural labor around 9pm but by the time I got to the hospital, and the doctors and anesthesiologist, and crew got there it was 12:00 am I had her at 12:37 am.
Then a "real" emergency situation broke out and they needed EVERY nurse and doctor from the maternity ward, the mother was dying and they wanted to save the baby at least. I believe the baby made it, but the mother didn't. I didn't mind because I was so messed up on drugs and puking that I couldn't even see at the time
With my second however, I got him back as soon as I was in a room, and he was all cleaned up and vitals were checked. so probably no longer then 2 hours
Both times I got to hold them almost right away. They showed me the baby and then the nurse took the baby to wipe down quickly, weigh and let DH snap pictures (all in my view), then the baby got wrapped and handed to DH and he came over and we snuggled for oh 3-5min when DH was asked to wait in the recovery room so they could finish closing me up. Within 10min I was back with my DH and baby and the baby never left me after that.

Thanks Nicole (MommaDucks) for my new & awesome siggy.
I got to hold Ethan while I was being wheeled to my recovery room. I was so surprised when they said, "And here's Mommy!" And there he was on my chest!

Thanks Natasha for my amazing siggy!
I got to hold dd while they were stitching me up. They had already wiped her and wrapped her up when they laid her on my chest. I do not recall holding her in recovery. I was flying pretty high at that point. LOL! I do know she was in the room when I got there. I think they wheeled us in together. But, after that, she stayed with me the whole time.

Hmm I got to see Gaby after they'd done the first APGAR & cleaned her up, then they did the measuring/weighing/5 min APGAR & gave her to her father, and he sat cuddling her until they had me all ready to go into recovery. They put me on a hospital bed & then handed Gab to me & wheeled us to recovery. I held her until we went up to my room & she went in the cot & I slept (so probably around 4 hours!)
after they are weighed and measures and all that they give the baby to the dad. As soon as I am finished with the surgery they put the side rails up and hand the baby to me to hold as I am wheeled to recovery.
During all three of my c-sections My arms were tied out to the side like I was tied to a cross so I wasn't able to hold the baby right away. Both hospitals I have had c-sections in have had daddy come into the room after I was numbed and sat him at my head so DH cant see over the screen they placed infront of me so I couldn't see them cut into me. As soon as the baby was out (except in the case of my son) the Pediatrician took the baby from the doctor showed her to us then took her to that warming cart for measuring and cleaning then handed the baby to daddy in about 5 minutes. Then daddy went with baby to my room while they finished sewing me up. Daddy and baby were in my room when I got there.

I got to see Drew right away and my husband got to hold him for a few minutes and then Drew was taken to the nursery. I didn't get to hold him until about 3 hours later when I got moved up to my postpartum room. Next time I plan on asking to have the baby with me in the recovery room
With both c/s I got to see and kiss them and then they went to be checked over and joined me in the recovery room where I was able to hold and breastfeed.

For some reason, not even sure why....now that I think about
it. I didn't get to hold my baby for about 5 hours. I was in
recovery from 8am-9am...then I didn't see Wyatt til almost
1pm!! Maybe it was because he was so small and I had GD.
Who knows. I was drugged up those first couple days....it's
kinda a blur.
