Is there any point in TTC if you're not getting periods while breastfeeding? My daughter Brianna is almost 6 months, she sleeps through most nights, I'd say she nurses about 6 times a day, but I still haven't had a period. A couple of weeks ago I had 2 days where I was spotting brown discharge, not really sure what that means. But anyway, we would like to get pregnant again by the Nov/Dec/Jan time frame but I'm assuming there's no hope for that unless my periods return?

I was thinking the same thing myself - we have been NTNP since Josiah was born and haven't seen any sign of AF or a BFP. I am beginning to think I'll have to quit BFing in order to get PG again. Good luck!

Hiya Kim! So even if you haven't gotten af yet you may be able to catch the first ovulation you have before your first AF. I had the same exact thing you described about brown spotting and so i started charting again and guess what i just ovulated two days ago for the first time since having Jackson. It was CD 42 from the day i had spotting. I would think you would be in a similar situation since you have had that discharge (the WHO says that ANY spotting/bleeding after 56 days PP should be considered AF ie a return of fertility.) OPKs and charting are always helpful to give you some idea of what is going on with your body. Good luck TTC. I bet you'll be the next preggo in our PR.

So Sarah, how do I chart? This is all new to me! I know I can figure out the date that I had the brown discharge. I assume the only way I will know that I'm ovulating is by either using an OPK or by monitoring my CM?

I use fertilityfriend.com to chart. You will need a basal body temperature thermometer which i'm sure you can get at target or walmart. Every morning as soon as you wake up (best if around the same time each day) take your temp and log it in your chart. You can also track symptoms, meds you take, and your CM in fertility friend too. If you ovulate FF will evaluate your info and pinpoint the day you probably ovulated. Your CM will be either eggwhite or watery around ovulation and your temps will rise after you o. Here is my chart if you wanna get a general idea...
My Chart
FF also has a charting course to help you learn all the in's and outs of charting and fertility. FF chart and course are free but they also have a more fancy VIP membership that they charge for. I do have the VIP membership but you def. don't NEED it to chart successfully. Good luck and feel free to pm me if you have any questions at all.

ETA - your chart will begin the day of your spotting and don't worry that you don't have temps for a couple days just start whenever, FF will probably still be able to pick up your o' date especially if you have a long cycle.

I kept an eye on CM as well and as soon as I noticed the beginning signs of EWCM (I just hit 7 months PP on Sunday) I began to use OPKs and got a positive on 9/1 and on 9/11 (my wedding day) I got my first PP AF. Unfortunately I didn't get pg on that O, but there are chances of getting pg while having no AF if like said above you catch your first O. I agree on using FF to track your CM and/or OPK results.

I'll have to check that out. I swore I ovulated on August 9th because I had really stretchy CM and I had a couple of sharp pains, but then I never actually got a period. But I did spot brown for 2 days a couple of weeks ago. So who knows what's going on. Hope you don't mind if I ask questions about charting!
