Hope you don't mind me barging in like this.

I have been EBFing almost 8 months (on the 21st it will be 8 months) and I still haven't gotten AF back. I am not looking to "try" per se but we aren't preventing. Now what I want to know is how do you know if you are pregnant if you don't have a cycle yet? Also what are the chances of getting pregnant while EBFing at this point?

Hi! I don't think the odds are very high, I think I read somewhere that it's about a 6% chance. My son is 15 months old, and I still haven't had a period yet. I started testing like every week-every few weeks back when my son was 8 months old, but I have realized that it just doesn't seem like I'll be ovulating any time soon, so I don't test much anymore. I had a few patches of ovulation symptoms in the last few months but nothing ever came of it, so I try and not read into things too much anymore. I think I'll test once or twice a month now just to be sure.

Laurel, I'm in the same boat as you. No AF here and I actually want to start actively TTC. I test once a month with dollar store tests just to check. I have been having cramps/migraines about 2 days a month for the past 3 months and they feel just like when AF comes, but nothing. My doctor said it is probably my body gearing up for ovulation and AF again though.

My first AF came when my daughter was 9mths (she's almost 33mths now and I've been ttc since my AF came back!)

I do think as your EBF though that your chances are higher that you will either get AF soon or catch the first egg! I'd say you could perhaps get a bumper pack of preg test strips on eBay (you can get 10 or 20 really cheap) and test once a month for peace of mind or until AF comes back!

im just a lurker too... but i conceived my second while still nursing my first, never got my period or symptoms. i just decided to check one day cause we were hoping to get pregnant again and wow it was positive! my doc had told me that you dont need you rperiod to get preggers, but it is more difficult cause you never know if you did or didnt ovulate... if you dont wanna get pregnant then id recommend birth control, they have a pill takes safe to use while nursing, if you dont mind getting pregnant again then just wait and see what happens i tried to conceive again while nursing with my second didnt happen though im expecting now.

I have a 9.5 month old son and I have not had my first PPAF either. He does eat solids, but we end up cosleeping from about 2-7 and he nurses off and on. I'm debating night weaning him to encourage AF, but honestly am not looking forward to that battle.

The chances of conceiving while EBF are truly slim if you are not allowing pacifiers etc. I usually test once a month just to be sure

I'm still BFing 15 month old son and no AF either. I think EBFing might prolong AF more than if LO were eating solids, but the fact that he/she's over 6 months also makes a difference. Be on the lookout for any changes to your CF, etc., which COULD signal that AF MIGHT be returning soon, or may just serve to slowly make you lose your sanity, as evidenced by my many posts to this board!!
