You know how alot of girls get their 1st period at about the same age that their mom did? I was wondering if the same is true for when you get your 1st PPAF?
The reason I ask is this: My mom had 5 kids and BF'd all of us (for 9 months at the longest). She never got AF back until a few months AFTER she completely weaned us. I'm wondering if I will take after her. If I do, TTC while BFing will more than likely be a fruitless effort.

Any thoughts?

Hmmm could be but at the same may not be just because I know of some ladies who got af back very early with the 1st baby and then very late or not at all with their 2nd till they weaned. So that is something in my opinion that is very much up in the air as to whether its plausible or not. Also for me vs. my sister she got her af back within 4 months pp where as I got mine back 7 months pp and hers came back but was super irregular and mine has been fairly regular (we have same mom same dad). So it really varies and you just never know when AF will finally decide to return!

I haven't heard that, but on the contrary to what Bretanha said, I have read that you are very likely to return to fertility at around the same time with each consecutive baby.

I also have to say it probably depends on you and the child nursing more than hereditary. I wouldn't know with mine as I was only breastfed for a month, and my sis 4mths, as a baby. I am still nursing my 33mth old and my AF came back when she was 9mths.

I guess only time will tell but if you look at ecological breastfeeding - which is holding OFF AF as long as possible through nursing - then by breaking the 'rules' its more likely you would get AF back before fully weaning. Although that depends how long you intend to nurse? Its not uncommon for AF to not return until 18 to 24mths but as most people wean before then its easy to say 'it didn't come back until after we stopped'

I'll have to ask my mum when she had her 1st ppAF now!
9 months is an early return for AF for alot of women, so it's likely that your mum would have gotten AF back around that time whether or not she weaned. It's hard to say there..
As for getting AF back around the same time each baby, it might depend upon how much they are BFing. Although with my DD, AF came back 7-9 months (can't remember exactly) and she had NO solids just booby, and this time with DS, I had a *possible* AF when he was just over 6 months. He has been eating solids since 3 1/2 months! So now I don't know lol I think all i've done here is confused myself and everyone else

Nope, not true for me. My Mom's fertility returned as soon as she started introducing solids. Mine doesn't come back until I'm down to nursing about 3 times a day. That was at 10 months pp with my first and 13 months pp with my second.

I think it more depends on HOW you are BFing.

My AF came back at 5-6 months with both my kids. But I also let them take a paci if wanted and work so I pump twice a day and they take my BM via a bottle while at my mom's. I have a pretty early return to fertility despite delaying solids until 6m.

But if you are only passifying and feeding your baby at your breast I would expect for you to have a later return to fertility.

My my had her tubes tied after me so she never got AF back or I would ask her.
