Sorry in advance for the extreme TMI but I'm not sure if this is normal.

I just got my first PPAF two days ago. It started with very small spotting and then it went to a full blown period. Well it's REALLY bad now. I had to get up repeatedly during the night to change both a tampon AND a pad. When I woke up the bed was covered in blood. I have to change my pad and tampon every 30 minutes. I am bleeding through my clothes. I was standing in the washroom and the blood was literally running down my legs (while I was wearing a pad and tampon) The bathroom floor was covered in blood. My daughter walked in the bathroom and saw me and freaked out, DH freaked out. I've never bled like this before, even with my last first PPAF or with PP bleeding. I also feel really weak and off, I feel like I could pass out and my arms/legs are freezing (its hot here). Is this normal?

THIS IS NOT NORMAL!!! Please call your OB Laurel!!!

My 1st PPAF have always been painful..more cramping and sore than normal and maybe heavier and longer than most. But I have never lost as much blood as you are discribing.

Please get checked out and KUP when you are feeling up to it.

Well I just got home from the ER. UGH! Well turns out I was bleeding an unsafe amount. The nurses monitored my blood loss levels (they wanted to see each and every pad...gross ) and repeatedly had to check my blood pressure and heart rate. The ER doctor spoke with the on call OB/GYN and they decided two routes for me. First was give me a high dosage of birth control pills to stop/slow down the bleeding or a D&C. I was hesitant to do the birth control pills because of my breastfeeding. The doctors worked hard to find me something that was breastfeeding safe (but not before they tried to tell me to wean my son, ) So I got birth control pills and I have to take 2 pills twice daily for 2 days, then 2 pills once daily for 2 days, then 1 pill daily until the pack is gone. The doctor said that the bleeding should slow down by morning and if it doesn't I have to go back to the ER. The worst part is I have to wear a diaper! UGH! I am bleeding so much, that a pad/tampon can't handle it. So I'm wearing an adult diaper.

Oh Laurel, I'm so sorry you're having to go through this! I hope that the birth control pills start working soon. Let us know how you're feeling tomorrow.
