Hi, I'm Elizabeth, 21, wife to Barry and mommy to Judge, 6.5 months. DS has been bf since day one and I would like to continue as long as possible, at least past one year. Me and DH want one more child and I've always wanted children close together. So, as of this month we are NTNP (although I have not been on bc since judge was born). I got af in Jan and its been fairly regular. I have never charted, and we got pregnant with judge our first month NTNP.

Anyway, I have a question. What affect will/may there be on my milk supply when I get pregnant?

And also, any tips or advice for me?

A lot of babies wean when mom gets pregnant because the flavor and texture can change, and milk can dry up. Some babies nurse right through it and eventually the milk comes back, but from what I learned in my Lactation Consultant class, more babes than not wean themselves when mom gets pregnant.

that being said, not all babes do it. It is kind of hard to judge what would happen. You can work with an LC during your pregnancy, to encourage him to keep nursing if you see signs of self weaning


Dh and I just decided we are going to officially start trying...I got preg but it resulted in a chemical, so I am just waiting to O again! Good luck to you! There is a NTNP board on JM that's got a lot of great moms on it

I didn't think anyone remembered me from the ncb board. Hard to believe its been almost 7 months.

I'm really torn right now because we really want another baby very soon, but I really want to nurse judge at least a year. Looks like I'll be making a call to the LC and see if she can give me any advice to keep from self weaning.

Now, does the nutrition in breastmilk change with a pregnancy?

No, i mean the composition might change a little but the value is still the same its always the best thing to give your babe
