Hi everybody,

I'm a regularly posting member in the April 08 DDC, DH and I are expecting our first (a baby girl named Brianna) on 4/26/08..

My question is this: I plan on BF for at least the first year, how long did your OBs recommend you wait before TTC a 2nd (or 3rd, 4th..)?

I'm a first timer so I'm unsure.. DH and my SIL are 14 months apart and my MIL said that was perfect for them. I'm just not sure how soon I should start TTC (I don't want them 9 months, 6 weeks apart, that's for sure! )

Hi there!

Congratulations on your impending mommyhood

My OB didn't have any recommendations as far as waiting to TTC. (Well, I think they ask you to wait until after your 6 week postpartum checkup at least!) The biggest thing with BF is that if you do it exclusively (no formula) and on demand your period will probably not return for a good long time! It's different for everybody of course, and some unlucky women get AF back within a matter of weeks or months. But others can go well over a year without ever seeing her return!

It's a factor I never thought about until my DD's first birthday rolled around and I wanted to start TTC #2! I was sooo worried we'd have to wean in order to get my cycles back but luckily AF made her reappearance just 2 weeks after Chloe turned 1.

First off welcome!!!! Good luck on the upcoming birth.

Honestly many docs will say to wait at least 18 months to 2 years before TTC again. Pregnancies that are closer than 18 months apart are sometimes what can put you in a higher risk catagory.

We personally start TTC when our littlest is about 6 months, but it has take a year or more to get pg the last few times.

With nursing you may not have your fertility return till you are done nursing, BUT that doesn't mean it will not come back sooner! LOL
