My 7 year old son (who is hearing impaired), went last week to have some more testing done to see where we can go from here.

He might be able to have a surgery to open his canals up so that he can hear better...he would still have to wear hearing aids, but they would fit in his ear instead of being on a headband and very noticable like the one he has right now.

(He has a conductive loss which means he wears an aid on a band that sits on a bone in his head to send sound vibrations directly to the inner ear to hear things!)

Wish us luck!!

Well after and hour and a half..they did some more testing..but it is still iffy so he has to go back on the 20th.

They are talking about doing surgery on one ear and seeing how that goes. But they were also talking about making some mold to go into his canals for regular hearing aids...

But since they don't know totally what is going on with his middle ears...they are stuck...so more testing...and they wouldn't know anything about the middle ears without exploratory surgery...so we are sticking with the outer ears for now and doing what helps that first so we don't have to do any more surgery than is definitely needed!

Thank you for caring and asking about him...that was very sweet of you Dawn!!!

I wish you luck with your little guy ... My brother in law has had to wear hearing aids since he was a toddler... he got sick when he was a baby and the infection affected his hearing ... I don't know what the situation is with your son besides what I have read on here
But I thought you might like to know that my brother in law is now 24 years old and very well adjusted .. he just passed his boards and started his first job as a registered nurse ... we are all very proud of him
I am sure things like his hearing aids make him feel different from other kids - just as glasses or braces or a wheelchair or anything would
Just keep supporting him and letting him know how wonderful he is, because I am sure he is, and all will work out wonderfully

Best of Luck to you
