does the fact that my bbt vaginally is above 98.0 consistently with a few dips...for over 17 days...show I have an overactive thyroid...My temperatures have also been high during the day...also when my oral temp dips .from previous day..my vaginal temp doesn't? What causes that?

Are you new to charting? I've been charting for over 4 years now, and have found temping during the day only adds confusion! I would recommend only temping once in the am also to avoid confusion and possibly inaccurate entries. Its best not to adjust your temps or discard them. Also if you're temping orally/vaginally its better to stick with that one method....one temp in your cycle doesn't mean much. You're looking for an overall trend in your chart. I temp vaginally and my temps are almost always above 98.0, and in the 98.5-98.9 range post O. I've had hyperthyroid problems, but was just retested and my thyroid levels are normal. I don't think temps alone can point to an under or over active thyroid, but I could be wrong.

If you're having hypothyroid symptoms, I would suggest going to your doc for a simple blood test to check your levels. Its so simple and may put your mind at ease. Oh, I started charting orally in 2004 but switched to vaginally temping in May 2006. HTH

I've been temping charting since 2005. Well my vaginal temp finally dipped to 97.6 so maybe I will get to O...it has been 98.0-98.3..for over 2 weeks...my oral temp was 97.3 but that really doesn't mean alot when you wake up with your tongue dried out...

lol...I've been waking up with my tongue dried out...DEFINITELY...mouth breathing..next cycle will be all vaginal temping...since those numbers have been so consistent with very little variations...

in previous cycles when I would temp vaginally, but chart orally..it stayed pretty consistent with my oral pre-o temps...below 98.0 until Ovulation...

I sometimes temp both vaginal and oral...as a double check...but I only CHART oral. And I wake up with my alarm to do it...I have had pretty consistent charts/cycles for a while until now..as a matter of fact this is the only cycle EVER...I have had mid-cycle bleeding.

I've been taking my daytime temperature to rule out fever when I feel x-tremely hot...it's been getting up there...to 99.7 but my temps have been climbing that high for a while...the result is I'M HOT. I am not confusing these temps with my bbt.

here's my method...

get up to alarm...temp orally...grab other thermometer temp vaginally, make a note of both...then in FF I plot my oral temp...and make a note of my vaginal temp in the little pop up boxes...so if I miss a shift due to mouth breathing...orally...I will see it vaginally...I know alternating the temps will confuse me...

let's just say I have one chart oral and one chart vaginal--to be extra cautious...
