Do any of you have anything special planned for Halloween?

Do you decorate your house?

Pumpkin carving?

What else do you do to get "into the spirit"?

We are painting a pumpkin this year. Since Brady is only 15 months old I don't want to try carving one yet because he still puts everything in his mouth so I bought him washable finger paints and we are gonna let him paint our pumpkin. We got him a frog costume from the kids consignment shop for $4. We will more than likely just take him out to our friend' houses and let him get candy from them since I'm sure he wont eat it anyways [: it's more for just being able to say he went [: we dont decorate because last year was our first year in our neighborhood and we decorated and stuff and NOBODY came to our neighborhood trick or treating.

edited because I can't spell!

There weren't many kids where i used to live, i bought treats every year then no one ever came round! Where we live now there are quite a few kids, so i've put in a bit of effort.

I bought some window decorations, also i have a kinda hanging celing decoration with bats dangling from it, i'll put that in the hall so the kids can see it when i open the door. I got for a present a few years back i skull where fog comes out of its eyes, i might put that in the hall too. I'm also gonna do a couple of pumpkins, i really enjoy carving those

We use to decorate, haven't done it in a while.

We're going to MIL's house for Halloween. They have some sort of big party--I'm not exactly thrilled about going.

I think we're dressing P up as Wonder Woman for Halloween. We "inherited" several costumes, but I'm not sure which one we'll use yet.

I carved a pumpkin for the first time yesterday. I've never done it before (my mom and step-dad were Jehovah's Witnesses when I was growing up, lol... 'nuff said). It was fun. Seamus had fun too. He was a little afraid to stick his hand in the pumpkin though!

We don't really do anything to decorate the house though... I usually wait until Yule/Xmas to do that.

Halloween is known as Samhain ("sow-en") in our house. In our religion, Samhain is when our god symbolically dies (to be reborn at Yule) and the veil between the world of the living and the spirit world is thinnest. It's a time to honour passed loved ones, and to celebrate the end of Summer (not that there are any seasons here in Hawaii, lol). Normally, we would do a religious ritual to honour this, but we haven't in a couple years or so. I hope we'll do one this year. Seamus is starting to get at the age where he could start appreciating holidays. So I'd like to celebrate them more.

We also plan to go trick-or-treating (maybe) and stop by a block party going on in our neighborhood. But mostly I think we'll just be handing out candy.
