So, I've only been charting for a month, and rarely do temping...but given that I've yet to get a positive OPK, and I'm already on CD22, I decided that I need to at least try temping to see if I'm even ovulating...

Ok, so this morning my dog woke me up at 5:30am (an hour before I had to wake up - fun )...so I took my BBT then, and it was 97.5...great, definitely not Oing, cause it was exactly the same as all the temps I took last week when I know there was no O yet...so, annoyed, I waited an hour, but didn't get back to sleep, then got out of bed with the alarm, let the dogs out, then was cooking breakfast and decided to temp again - got 97.5 again...now this is weird, since I'd been pretty active over at least 5 minutes, and had been up an hour...

So, then I ate, dressed, got ready for work, and temped right before brushing my teeth - this time it was 97.1!!??

Ok, so that made no sense at all...

Long story short(er)...I got a BBT (the other was digital but not specifically BBT - and it was a older one) tonight...so, tonight, I took my temp with both of them...

BBT = 97.98
Old one = 98.7

Ummm...rrrr...ummmm...that is a pretty big difference!!

So, anyway, will be very interested to see what BBT says tomorrow morning...if it is a degree lower than the other, I'm going to be practically dead - low 96/high 95?!?!

Can anyone explain this...am very confused!!

Wanted to add this - and get an opinion if I could...
BBT (w/new thermometer) was 97.1 at 4:30am (we are watching this dog, and he is crazy - he leaves on Friday, but until then, I doubt if I will get uninterupted sleep)...
Then, I fell back asleep until 6:30am, and it was 97.7?!?!

This seems like a huge discrepancy...
Any ideas...and which should I chart?

Did you have 3-4 hours of sleep before the 430 temp? If so it would probably be better to chart that and maybe do a temp adjust ment of .1 degree for each half hour until your regular temp time. The other option is for this cycle to wake up at 4:30 every morning and take your temp for consistency then next cycle (if you have a next cycle ) take it at a more normal hour.

The way BBtemp works is you naturally have a lower temp while sleeping. As the waking hour approaches, your body begins to raise the core temp to begin waking you up. So, even if you are asleep, the closer it gets to you normal waking time the higher your temp should be. If you sleep late one day your waking tmep will be a little higher then it would be if you had gotten up earlier. For some women this makes very little difference in the overall pattern for their chart, in others it makes a HUGE difference. I can wake up 2 hours late, and have it be close enough not to matter, so I chart what the therm says. It seems that for you it might make a big difference, so you would be better off either temp correcting, or setting an alarm to take your temp at the earliest time that you may wake up naturally.

This is what I do. My hubby has to get up fairly early, so I temp at the time the alarm goes off for him, and I continue to set the alarm for that time on weekends as well, then just go back to sleep after I temp.

Thanks so much for the response...that makes so much sense, but I'd never heard of that before...

My normal waking time is 6:30am...
The only reason I'm waking up early this week is this big 35 pound dog that I'm not used to having on my bed, is practically in my face all night long...
I woke at 4:30 because of that...but I know my normal time is 6:30 (that's what my body is used to)...

But, if I got 2 hours of sleep (between 4:30 and 6:30) and did fall back asleep pretty fast - could the 6:30 time be more accurate (basically, I WANT to think that I have O'ed...and the 6:30 temp means taht I could have, but the 4:30 temp - no way)...

LOL...ok, so 4:30 temp of 97.1 + 4 (.1) = 97.5

Do you have a link to your chart?

Hmm, that's interesting. Do you have a link to your chart? It'd be nice to see it all mapped out.

LOL, since I just got the new thermometer, I don't think that any of the other temps are really valid - cause when I tried the two right next to each other, they were almost a full degree off...
I'm going to try with the BBT from here on - hopefully the dog wont wake me up now that he's been here a while...I dont want to wake at 4:30am every morning

How do I show my chart...can't figure it out...

Today I'm pretty sure I did it right...
I woke up at 3:30am because of the dog again, but it was only for about a minute, then I was back asleep till 6:30am...when the alarm rang, I rolled over, pushed snooze, and put the thermometer in my mouth...reading was 97.7. Does this sound high or low? Yesterday, when I woke up at 6:30, it was exactly the same...even though I'd woken up at 4:30 (because of the dog) and gotten 97.1

I don't know if I O'ed yet cause all my OPKs read negative, so I'm checking using this in the hopes that if it isn't happening, I can go to the doctor and get it fixed asap!

I'd show you the chart, but I really think today is the first ccorrect reading that I have on it...
