I know that my temp (normally) is lower than most people...but since I just figured out the BBT, I don't know much about it...

I seem to only have a difference of about .5 between BBT and normal...
How about you?

uhh my BBT varies, but a normal daytime temp for me is 97.1-97.6 or so, I've always got a lower temp like that

My normal temp is around 97.8 - 98. It used to be lower, but since I started taking my thyroid meds it is closer to 'normal'.

I think I have hypothyroidism - and that is why I dont seem to be ovulating (my ob/gyn said that she thought I had it at my last checkup)...I have an appointment for next Monday to have it checked out...hopefully that will explain my super low temps...weight gain...always cold...always tired...etc.etc.

Can I ask Pearl how you found out about the thyroid problem??

I was exhausted all the time and gained a bunch of weight so my doctor checked my TSH levels, which were extremely high.

When I was tryingt o get pregnant with my youngest it took a year. Even though my thyroid was testing normal, finally I told my primary care I wasn't losing weight and still felt tired. She checked it again, and it was normal, but she upped my meds anyway because I had symptoms. I got pregnant the next cycle.

Thanks for the info...I gained 10 pounds about 2 years ago (doesn't sound like a like, but I've been the same weight for the last 18 years, so it was pretty noticeable to me!)...right when I went fully vegetarian...

During that time, I also noticed that my running times were getting slower (I run a lot of triathlons and even though I was training more, I was getting more than a minute/mile slower, which was incredibly frustrating!!)...

At the time, I wasn't paying much attention to my body...but now I am...and, I do know that this cycle, I didn't ovulate (at least according to my OPKs)...and, my BBTs are super low...

All those things just really lead me to believe that this is the problem...

I have an appointment with an endocrinologist next Monday...
I'm thinking of also going to a obgyn specialist, just to jump start this thing - so that they can do some bloodwork to make sure that my levels are right...

I'm older (mid 30s), and am not so patient waiting to figure out all the things that might be wrong with me...

Oh, one more question - today, I woke up at 6:30am (my normal time to wake up), and temped...but, I didn't have to go to work, so I was up for about 15 minutes, then went back to sleep till 9am...will this mess up my BBT tomorrow?

Thanks

No it shouldn't mess up your temp for tomorrow.

Now, about the endo. Many of them do not care much to treat thyrois patients. You may end up seeing someone who will just brush you off. I have found that my primary care is more proactive thent he endo I swa, so I never went back. There is a thyroid forum here on JM that can give you a lot of info.

Also if you are having the symptoms and your levels are at the high end of noraml (or jsut less than 4.0) it may indicate you should be treated with a low dose of meds to help regulate you.

Meghan, I'm glad you psoted this, my results have always been borderline normal and I'm going to ask for a recheck and push the issue now. I've got many of the same symptoms.

Jen, if the doc still refuses to treat you there are ways of changing your diet to support thyroid function.

good to know. I think he will treat me if I ask, he's been pretty good about everything so far and is very proactive when it comes to treating things, now just comes the joy of getting in for an appt, lol.
