I was just wondering if anyone knows how much the room temp effects your basal temp. I live in a warm climate and the temp yesterday was in the 70's. It dropped down to about 28 last night so when I woke up this morning the house was 65 when it's normally 73. My temp yesterday was 97.6. I had really bad O pains yesterday and last night they stopped. I'm pretty sure I O'd but my temp was still 97.6 this morning. Could the room being 8 degrees cooler cause my temp to stay low?

room temp can affect your BBT quite a bit.

BBT is based on your metabolism. Mammals have the ability to maintian a constant temperature with only a few degrees variation, this is called homeostasis. This is why we sweat and shiver, turn red, etc. It is our body trying to maintain its normal temperature.
The cold room should not affect the heat your body is producing. The thermometer being cold when you place it in your mouth can. It doesn't have the time to reach let your mouth warm all the way back to the normal temperature befor it finishes getting the reading. What I do on days like that is hold it in my hand until it is warmer and then take my temp.
This morning when i took my temp it was a million degrees in my room. I was so hot my cheeks were flush. I took my temp it was 98.2. I got up opened the window and went back to sleep again. It was cooler in my room a few hours later, I was cold and needed to grab a blanket. I am a compulsive temperature taker (always have been that is why I love charting...lol) so I took my temp again, it was still 98.2. If the room temp would make a difference I should have had a lower temp because of how cold my room had become.
Long story short is the room temp unless it is extreme to the point of hypothermia (or hyperthermia if it is hot) your body temperature will not be effected. But not warming the thermometer could give you a false low temp.

Thanks for the replies ladies. It seems like y'all have mixed thoughts but that's ok. I still don't know what I think. Both ideas make sense. Hopefully my temp goes up tomorrow. Of course FF will say I O'd today, but whatever. We've covered our bases. I had stopped the opk's because my doc said I was out this month so I stopped. I should have continued but I was depressed. Anyway, thanks again for the replies. I'll let y'all know what happens.

the only way room temp could affect your BBT is if you sleep with your mouth open. then you may want to wait a little bit before taking your temp, to let your mouth adjust (assuming you take it by mouth)

Thanks guys, my temp really never went up so I went in on Friday for an u/s to see if I O'd and my dr said yes. So, I started my progesterone and of course my temps went up then. I'm 8 dpo today. I took a test this morning and bfn. I expected that though. I just can't help myself. LOL. Here's my chart if anyone wants to take a look. http://www.fertilityfriend.com/home/249779

I see a thermal shift even before you started to meds. It coincides with your CM too. I hope you caught that eggie.
The only thing I would say is that you might have O'd CD 20, a day after FF says. So don't get discouraged if you don't get a BFP at 10 DPO.

I'm 13dpo. I started spotting at 11dpo so I stopped my progesterone. My temp went down yesterday but came back up today. I'm still just spotting. I got pregnant back in oct. and the same thing happened. I spotted 10-13dpo and got a bfp on 13dpo. It turned out to be a blighted ovum. I got a bfn this morning on the $ store tests. I don't know what's going on. I'm still hoping for a bfp but expecting af to show in full force at any time.
