What caught your attention the very first time you heard about NFP or FAM?


I'm prepping to teach NFP classes to the Nursing students at our local college on Monday. I want to make sure I include the information that appeal to people first - before I get into all the biology of it.

Not having to take fake hormones (the pill) in order to prevent pregnancy. I had a very bad emotional reaction to taking them. Mood swings, mostly sadness and anger. I would go off on my husband a lot.

Oh, and knowing what was going on in my body. I have always had irregular cycles.

BC really messed up my cycles. Knowing that there was a natural form of BC was really appealing. I also am a control freak and like to know what's going on in my body at any given time. For the longest time I thought I "leaked" and was embarrassed, and would wear a panty liner all the time. I had no idea that cervical fluid even exhisted. I was actually kind of mad that my mother didn't teach me when I was young. She apparently has used NFP her whole life.

I think our mothers come from the generation of moms that didn't talk about sex or cycles with their daughters. They just let us go to the female ed class in 5th grade. I don't even remember talking to my mother after watching the movie. If I ever have a daughter, she'll be getting Cycle Savvy by Toni Weschler when she gets her period. I don't want her to not have a clue as to what is going on in her body.
