Hi. I am not TTC just yet, fall 09, but since I have joined this site I have learned so much about chart temping, CM, etc. I have started to track my periods since Jan of this year just to give myself a better picture of my period schedule. I use to be every 26 days on the dot but since Dec of last year till my last period (Feb) I have been late a few days but eventually got my period. I am still trying to figure out FF but I have a question about ovulation and CM. I have started to take notice of my CM and have learned about the different consistencies. So today before my shower I noticed the consistency is what I have seen as described as egg whitey which I think means I am close to ovulating correct? I did the math though and my last period was on Feb 21st making this 20 days later. Isn't that really late to be ovulating? I thought ovulation usually took place in the 10-15 day range,. Is this normal? I just noticed it now so plan on keeping track and writing when I see this egg whitey CM from now on but was just wondering if this was weird or maybe I was just wrong about my ovulating range?

You very well could be ovulating right now. Have you been taking your temps? You may be ovulating late in your cycle and since you said your cycles are usually 26 days, you could have a luteal phase defect. If you do not have a luteal phase of at least 10 days, you will be unable to hold a pregnancy. Temping is a great way to figure out your luteal phase. You could also talk to you doctor and ask for some blood work. I would take note and see how long this cycle is and compare that to when you got the EWCM consistency. Good luck

Is this something that happens cycle to cycle or a permanent issue? I was pregnant before, 2 years ago, and it ended in a miscarriage. It might have been a chemical pregnancy as I was only 4 days late when I took a pregnancy test. I got blood work and the levels were high they said thus confirming the pregnancy but within a week I bleed out and a sonogram showed that there was nothing inside my womb.
I am waiting for my BBT to come in so I can begin temping. What should I be looking for again?

First of all, that's GREAT that you are starting to chart, research your CM before TTC! If you do happen to have a lutel phase defect DON'T PANIC! It's a condition that is extremely treatable when diagnosed. Some women want to TTC for several months before doing any sort of testing, but I chose to get my FSH/progesterone levels tested the 2nd month of TTC. (which is this month) The FSH is a blood draw on day 3 of your cycle. It's a test to show if your hormones are stimulating properly, and to make sure you aren't in early menopause. The progesterone test I will have done on day 20 of my cycle, and it's another blood draw that makes sure you have ovulated. My FSH levels are all normal, and I'm PRAYING my progesterone will be normal too!

Heyyyy Jasmine! Sometimes it happens where you have that one cycle that's screwed up. This is the cycle for me, I O'ed on CD 24 this cycle and I have NO IDEA why.
Normally when you get EWCM it will be a few days until you O, but you'll never really know you O'ed until after you O and you're dry.

I think I have always O'd on CD20 or later. It's normal. However, like the ladies above said, if your LP is shorter than 10 days, that could indicate a problem.

CM will go through different stages, and will look different up until you O, when you O, and after you O. I would say you are most likely getting ready to O in a few days. Every woman is different, and everyone's CM varies. There's an AWESOME book that will even give you pictures of the different types of CM. "Taking Charge Of Your Fertility." by Toni Weishler (I think I spelled her name right)

Hello, and welcome to this area of the board.
If you are seeing EWCM, that means that you are about to ovulated. It's different in all women. But, for some, they get it the day they ovulate, others for a few days before, and some don't get any at all. That's great that you're getting some!
Ovulating after cd20 is not usually the best thing, especially if you're normally having a 26 day cycle. When you say the last few cycles you were late, how late?
Keeping track of things now will be great for you. But, I wouldn't start temping quite yet, if I were you. If you're not going to be ttc for another 6 months or so, it will just make you obsess unnecessarily. But, I would recommend you start charting 2-3 months before you start ttc. That way, if you are having a problem with your luteal phase being too short, you can take evidence of that to your doctor during your pre-ttc physical, and they can work with you to get it corrected quickly.
Generally speaking, your LP doesn't change from month to month. If you have a 14 day LP, it will usually always be 14 days. The day you ovulate can change, making your cycles shorter or longer, though. But, if your LP is short, there are things you can do to help make it longer.
Good luck, and be sure to ask if you have any more questions.
