Hello, I'm new here. I just went to the dr 2 days ago because we are ready to ttc, and I'm pretty sure I have PCOS since I have all the symptoms. She told me to try and eat healthy and exercise and buy an OPK to see if i even ovulate. But from reading the boards, it seems as though it might be a waste for me to do so since my cycles are so screwy and I might get false positives. Right now, I'm waiting for AF to arrive before I start charting. Do you guys think it's worth it to buy an OPK, chart my temps, and go by CM? Or should I just pick one or two since this is the first month we're actively trying? Before, we were NTNP, but now we really want it! I'd appreciate any advice.
Thanks!

I haven't used OPKs yet so I can't help you there (although I do think that you typically do them on a series of days so you would need to buy more than just one) but I would say if you plan on charting to start now just to get into the habit of it. I know my first few cycles charting I would regularly forget so the charts meant next to nothing so why not get the forgetful days out right now.

Personally I chart my BBT temp (orally taken) and track my CM using fertilityfriend.com

Welcome!

Since you might have PCOS and may not ovulate regularly, idk if using OPK's would be for you. I dont know much about PCOS except for the irregular cycles. Some people still do use OPK's though but you'll need to buy A LOT (when I use them, I typically use 2 a day for about 10 - 15 days depending on my cycle, but I didnt use them this cycle since I'm not TTC).

Temping and tracking CM like Katie mentioned would probably be the best route IMO. I started temping to get in the habit of temping a few days before my period. I still miss days here and there most of the time its intentional though.

False positives are common with PCOS I think...so that's tough, but I think it may depend on the person.

I use all 3 (I don't have PCOS though). I chart and check cm, when my cm starts looking like it might be fertile, I use opk's to confirm. BTW - I buy my opk's at early-pregnancy-tests.com...they are pretty cheap.

Based on your situation, I'd say not to bother with the opk's. But for sure do the BBT charting and CM. True, it wont for sure point you towards oncoming ovulation. But, CM will give you an idea, and the temps will confirm it. That's what you need at this point, I think.

Good luck!

Thanks for your help everyone! I ended up just ordering some OPKs anyways because my doctor wants me to try that first. Also, she didnt' officially diagnose me with PCOS, I'm just positive I have it based on my symptoms but I could be wrong lol. I'm also going to chart my temps and CM. Thanks again!
