G'morning ladies!
So, another night of not sleeping too well. I accidentally woke up at 5:30, but I usually temp at 6:30. I went for a potty break and got back into bed. A few minutes later I realized I wasn't going to go back to sleep quickly, so I temped and got 97.84. I had been awake maybe 5 minutes.
Then my alarm went off at 6:30 and I think I had dozed off for a while, and immediately I temped, and it had jumped to 98.12.
For the past 2 days my temp was 97.8-something so my first temp was closer to what's been going on.
Which is the more important factor---The temp that was after a longer stretch of sleep but a few minutes awake, or after less sleep and closer to my normal time and immediately upon waking?
Or worse, are the both invalid?
Thanks!

C'mon now, don't be shy. I know someone here knows the right choice.

I'd use the first temp.

Definitely wouldn't use the first one, but you need to mark sleep deprived again, in my opinion.
Good luck! Hope you get some decent sleep soon!

I wouldn't use either of them. My rule of thumb is...if I wake up, and it's less than 2 1/2 hours from when I would normally wake up, I will temp. If I have to get up to pee, I temp first. If baby wakes up crying, I temp first. He can wait one more minute.
But, if you've already ovulated, the temp isn't really important. If you're about to ovulate, it's more important. So, put the first one down, put mark down sleep deprived.
Good luck! You'll figure it all out eventually. But don't be afraid to keep asking questions.

I simply cannot believe I woke up at 4:30 this morning. At least I was in my right mind enough to temp right away even though it was 2 hours early. Temp was the same this morning as it has been the past 4 or 5 days now.
I don't know what's up with my sleep lately. I actually had to drink a cup of Sleepy Time tea to get back to sleep this morning and even then I was so restless. So not cool.

Bummer! I hope your sleep starts getting better! Or, perhaps, it's just your body's way of preparing you for parenthood! LOL

If my first 3 haven't prepared me....lol
Maybe it's just the nervousness of wondering what my temp is going to be in the morning, and being too eager to check it ASAP.
