Hi all,

Would you all mind answering some questions that I have? I've been monitoring my cycles on/off for the last few years, and I'm brimming with questions.

Most clinical websites purport that any cycle between ~23-35 days can be "normal", but never state whether that is per-month, or per-woman.
I understand that occasional flukes can happen, but mine have been ceaselessly unpredictable ever since I first got my period. I never know what to put down on my medical paperwork, because I don't think it has ever been the same duration twice in a row. It always comes -- which is good, but can vary from 24 to 32 days. One month it's 32 days, then 24, then 29, etc.

My weight is steady, I'm in decent health, I've never been on hormonal BC, I'm not under severe stress, and I take reasonably good care of myself. Should I be concerned? Could this be a potential issue, when my Husband and I begin TTC?

I've also noticed that I always get an estrogen surge a few days prior to my period. I'm assuming this is the effect of the disintegrating corpus luteum, but it's just speculation. If I notice this happening around 5 days or so beforehand, does that mean my luteal phase could be only 5 days?

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Your cycle lengths sound really similar to mine. My cycles range between 27-35 days normally (except for my last cycle), usually around 32-34 days... but they are never the same length two cycles in a row. Neither are my luteal phases (they always stay between 12-16 days though). I just started my 6th cycle of charting (with the intent to TTC) and here have been their lengths:

C1: 31 days, LP: 14 days
C2: 34 days, LP: 15 days
C3: 30 days, LP: 16 days
C4: 33 days, LP: 12 days
C5: 45 days, LP: 14 days
I'm now on CD1 of cycle 6.

I'm not really helping here... but I think I have the same concerns as you. I'm wondering if I should consult a doctor. :-/ So I basically have the same question as you. My cycles typically stay within the normal range, but they're different lengths each cycle, as are the Luteal Phases. :-/

Thanks for asking this! Hopefully the other ladies here can help us!

My cycles are the same way and have always been this way but i have PCOS and thats what causes mine to be so unpredictable I ovulate anywhere for day 16 to 25 my lp phase is 11 to 15 days and my cycle ranges from 31 to 36 days no matter when i ovulate tho i never go over 36 days

but i feel this one might be longer then normal for me cause this cycle has been crazy lol i think i just ovulated and im on cd 32 so well see i might only have a 4 day lp phase this month pcos is crazy

I also have the same thing with PCOS. It may be worth asking your doctors about. All a diagnosis requires is your history, blood work on CD 3, and an ultrasound to see if you have polycystic or polyfollicular ovaries. Then measures can be taken to help during your TTC efforts. Without the diagnosis you would need to wait 12 months for fertility assistance unless you're 30-35 or older depending on the doctor. If it isn't PCOS then they may uncover a different problem and again be able to help with your TTC efforts.

Thanks! I'm going to talk to my husband about it and when we move back to California next month, I'm going to make an appointment.
