Hello ladies! I hope you don't mind me popping in to ask a question. My LMP was 3/16/09. I didn't start temping because I felt I wasn't getting enough sleep and DD is still co-sleeping, etc, so I said I'd wait for the next cycle. I should mention that I am still nursing at night as well. So I had what I thought were O pains on April 8th and we BD the morning of April 9th. Fast forward a few days...I'd taken I don't know how many HPT's and all were BFN's with a couple of cheapie evaps thrown in the mix. Anyhoo, I last tested yesterday morning with FRER and it was BFN, so I'm figuring I'm out and breastfeeding is screwing with my cycle.

So I decided to break out my BBT this morning and take my temp today on CD 40...yeah, yeah...how lame am I. My temp was 98.14. So my question is, and I know it's probably hard to say off one temp, but wouldn't it appear that I did in fact O? That is my main concern. If I'm ovulating, I'm fine. I still haven't had AF though.

TIA for your help!

Sorry, but you just can't tell with one temp whether you've ovulated or not. Pains are not conclusive by themselves because they can happen when your body is trying to ovulate, even if the attempt is unsuccessful.

How many cycles have you had while you've been BFing?

There is absolutely no way of knowing based off of one temp! Sorry!

Yeah I didn't think it was possible, but I've never temped before, so I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. My previous pregnancies were natural surprises.

I've had three cycles...one at 7 weeks postpartum...got pregnant after that...had a miscarriage in September 08...had another cycle after I m/c in November and got on depo with that cycle. Didn't like depo so let that run out (Feb 09) and then had my LMP 3/16/09.

So I don't know if I'm regular or not yet...guess I just assumed since I had cycles and got pregnant that my fertility would return.

Ahhhhh, that changes things. The effects of Depo can linger in your system for a long time, even after just one shot. It's a very aggressive drug. You can probably expect some irregularity for awhile longer as your body heals.

Well that sucks...I really regret getting it anyhow...I practically bled for over a month straight. I was hoping it wasn't that. Breastfeeding would've been easier to deal with.

So is it even worth temping?

I'm sorry you're having to deal with the after affects of depo, but yes it is still worth temping so you can know what your body is doing and also to get used to it while waiting for your fertility to get back to normal.

Sure, you can temp. It will help you know when you ovulate when that finally happens. But you can do that by tracking the mucus pattern too, if the temping is a hassle.

Yeah, I already track my CM and that in conjunction with the pains was why I assumed I ovulated. Temping doesn't seem like it's going to be a hassle. It was pretty simple to do it this morning.

I know I can typically tell based on a temp where I am. But that is only because I have been charting for awhile, and my coverline tends to be the same every time. If I'm below 98 degrees I'm pre-o and if I'm above, i'm post-o. But I know every woman is different, and some women are different every time. When the depo gets out of your system, maybe you can start charting to get to know yourself! I like using sympto-thermal becuase I'm terrible at reading my cm and need temps to back up my determinations, but some women know their cycles based on cm alone. Different strokes for different folks. I recommend giving it all a try to find what works for you.

Thank you for your input. Before I had my DD, I went off CM and O pains. We weren't TTC yet, but I knew when AF was coming, which mattered more to me. But CM and CP were my first clues that I might be pregnant with DD. My CM picked up A LOT!

I've started temping now just to get a feel for things. Hopefully AF comes soon.
