I have seen some doctors discourage charting. They think it is too much work and some think it isn't useful. I am not totally sure why some docs encourage it and others think it is outdated or in accurate. I don't think it is that much work. I set my alarm and wake up every morning anyway. It only takes about a minute to plop a thermometer in my mouth so why not. I also like to know for sure when/if I ovulate. I sometimes have a hard time figuring it out but even if I don't know the exact date, I usually have a pretty good idea of when I ovulate

I don't think it is too much work. It was hard to get back into the habit of taking my temp before I got out of bed but that is why I started before we wanted to TTC again. I think it tells us so much about our bodies that it is so worth it.

I think people get discouraged during the learning phase, because it seems like so much information! And when you're trying to figure it all out on your own, it can be confusing. There's no doubt about that. That's why I always recommend that new charters learn from a teacher, WAY less confusing to learn that way. Most doctors don't have the time or patience to explain it all properly to their patients (if they even understand it in the first place!!!). It's way faster to write a script and send them on their merry way!

But once you're through the learning phase...it's SO easy! It becomes totally second nature so you hardly have to think about it, like brushing your teeth.

Let's see... takes me about a minute to take my temperature and about 30 seconds to check my CM and CP. Then about 20 seconds to record it all. So definitely not too much work.
