did you think it was crazy? Did you ever think you would be a charter?

The only type of charting I had ever heard of was charting for natural family planning and the infamous rhythm method. I didn't know much about it and thought it was outdated science when I first heard about it. But, now that I have tried it for myself and stared at countless charts it is so easy to see that charting tells you that when you ovulate and so much more. I love it and wish I had learned about it sooner.

I think I knew about taking your temperature with natural family planning also and had the same opinion as you. Then when we were TTC I think I heard about TCOYF on the TTC board and went and got the book after 2 unsuccessful attempts on our own. I am so glad that I have this knowledge now and I do wish that I would have learned about it much sooner. It is amazing how much information your body gives you each month and how much I never knew before. I feel like I was clueless with what they teach you in sex ed. I enjoy charting and was looking forward to getting AF after I slowed on breastfeeding so I could chart and see what my body was doing. But as much as I like charting, it would be nice to get a BFP and not have to worry about charting for a while.

I think the problem with sex ed is that they are trying to teach you how NOT to get pregnant so they make it out like any time you have sex voila you get pregnant. I think it is good for people trying to avoid to have the attitude of any oopsie could result in pregnancy but in reality it is not that easy to get pregnant. You really have to time things right.

Yeah I was really shocked at how hard it is to get pregnant too. We went off of the calendar method and had sex for like 12 days in a row and still missed the mark for the first 2 months. And that was so uncomfortable too!

I used to think charting sounded to complicated and that there are just too many variables that can affect temperature for it to be a useful method. However, now I think if one is consistent with charting temps, as well as other fertility signs such as cervical fluid and position, all signs can be helpful in predicting ovulation. I do NOT believe it is a sound method of trying to avoid pregnancy, as there are simply too many variables. However, if it is someone who is starkly opposed to all other methods and would not be devastated if they became pregnant, I would say go for it.

Hi naturalgirl!!! Welcome to the charting board!

I agree. I have found even when some variables change, like the temperature in the house is cooler or I don't sleep totally sound, I still can usually see a pattern on my chart. I also have found that my instincts are wrong a lot and charting helps me time things better.

It was in 05 I had already spent 9 months TTC with no luck and a lot of ladies in TTC were doing it so Ii thought I would give it a try. When I went to the Dr after not getting a BFP he looked at my charts and went right to a CD 21 Check up and gave me Clomid had I not been charting I would have had to wait 3 more months for Clomid so it was great. I did not start back at charting till Jan of this year that s when I got baby fever.

CAn you believe I have been on JM for over 4 years!!! ( Feb 05)

I thought it was one of the craziest things I ever heard of. I was wondering why some people would want to chart stuff like that....now I cant live without it! I'm obsessed!

I heard about it on JM. I was confused that people actually used FAM and NFP as a birth control method. It just didn't seem safe! We started charting to concieve, we never really used it for preventiing. Turns out my mother used to chart back in the day on paper. Since then I've found that it's actually quite common. My friends, while grossed out by the idea of cm, think it's kinda cool how I know what's going on in my body at any given time.

I take it they didn't cover the science of all that in your nursing program? They didn't cover it at all in mine, I had to get supplemental training after I graduated!

I heard about it on JM too, but this is the first time I've ever tried to get pregnant and wasn't really interested in fertility before. I just started my first charting cycle on May 28. I couldn't find a Basal temp thermometer anywhere so I used a regular one that goes in the ear and my temps were way below what they should be. So I finally found a basal thermometer last night and now I've erased all the earlier temps and started off new. My first temp sounds like what it should be. So hopefully it's not too late to tell if I'll be ovulating this cycle
