How long should a women TTC before going to her doctor for help? I have been TTC for 4 cycles now and have often thought about this. When is the normal or common time frame for calling your OBGYN for help with getting pregnant?

I think it depends on your age. You look pretty young to me If you are pretty young then you should give it a full year but if you are my age or older you should probably see your doc after six months. Also, if you know there is some type of medical problem I think you should skip the rules and go straight to your doc.

Patty is right. Most doctors wont even see you if you have been trying to conceive less than a year (and you are under 35). We tried for 2 years before this one but I was just scared to get help...or be told I couldn't have anymore. I know it sucks sooooo bad though, I truly do. They say it takes a healthy couple (which I think you and Serg are) 6 months to a year to conceive. I hope it happens way sooner though. BUT again, like Patty said - if you think you have medical problems, I would go sooner. Like for me, my irregular periods and not ovulating - I should have went sooner. I do wish you the best though Kody!!

No..I'm not going to even try to go to the doctor. But I was very curious about when the "norm" is. I believe me and Sergio are a heathly couple that can get pregnant and we have had three children without problems. The only thing that concerns me is the fact that I had an IUD for almost two years. Because IUD's are relitively new and alot of women who had/have them are almost like test studies for doctors, I don't know if it messed up my uterus linging or if it caused other problems.

I have had the same OBGYN for 7 years. He delivered all three of my children. When I had my IUD removed, he said..."Ok Kody! I'll see you in a few months." He pretty much expected me to get pregnant right way is seemed...especially since he knew how easily I got pregnant with all three of my children. So, in all honesty, he didn't tell me when I should go and see him if I wasn't getting pregnant.

I believe the norm is to ask for medical assistance after a full year of active TTC.

I wanted to add- depending on the kind of IUD you had, you may expect it to take a little longer. If you had a hormonal IUD like mirena, it can have the same effect on your cycle as BCP. After coming off hormonal BC it took me 7 months to regulate my cycle.
