I just got a BBT thermometer yesterday and used it today for the first time. I'm on CD 5...should I get rid of my earlier temps that I did with my regular thermometer? Would that make it more accurate? There was a huge drop today...to a temp that was way lower than any of the others from last month and this month so far.

What do you think?

I would just keep them and make note of the change in thermometers on your chart. Some people don't even start temping til after AF, or closer to O so they aren't the most important temps, but you took them, so I'd keep them.

(unless they'd interfere with the software calculating your coverline/O date, but unless you ovulate really early, it shouldn't be a problem). You can always "discard" them later.

My last cycle I took my temp with an ear thermometer first before I realized I had to use a bbt one, so I discarded all the temps with the old thermometer. You're at the beginning of your cycle so I don't think it would matter if you discarded them or not

You could take your temp with both thermometers (one right after the other) to see if there's a difference in readings. That way if one reads 97.3 and the BBT reads 97.72 you'll know whether to discard, adjust or just keep. I had to do that last cycle, so I just made a note of the actual temp in the notes & put my adjusted temp in the chart.
Good Luck!

Temps can fluctuate a great deal during the pre-ovulatory phase of your cycle, so I really wouldn't worry about those temps.

Good Luck with your chart! I'll be interested to see how it develops!!

I agree that since you are early in your cycle that it won't matter. I'd do what Amanda said and temp back to back with both thermometers and see how close they are. The only real difference between a regular thermometer and basal thermometer is that regular ones measure by .2 degrees F while basal work by .1 degree F so it's a bit more accurate.

I agree. I would just mark them with open circles. You can just use the sleep deprived option to make it an open circle (there is probably another way to do it but I just always use sleep deprived to give me an open circle when I can't figure it out.)

I don't think it really matters because your AF temps don't really affect the interpretation of your chart much anyway.
