hi
i read yesterday that cheese can pevent conception.
i know that you can't drink low fat or skin milk while TTC but is it true that sliced cheese that you put on your sandwitch can prevent conception?
i love cheese on my sandwitch and i love cheese period.
we but the packaged individual sliced cheese like kraft for are sandwitches.
just curious if this is true or not.
i hope not since i love cheese and yogurt so much
thanks

Hmmm...I hadn't heard the skim milk or cheese thing. I only drink skim milk and I eat loads of cheese and got pregnant with our first on our first cycle trying. So I don't know.

That's funny, because in What To Expect Before You Are Expecting... it recommends Full Fat dairy, including cheeses. So I'm not sure how much validity there is in the whole cheese prevents conception thing.

LOL Daniela!
Actually I should re-phrase that. This is what it says:
Full Fat for Full Fertility
Though standard nutritional recommendations have long dictated that lowfat or nonfat is the way to go when it comes to dairy products, some research suggests that full-fat versions may offer some fertility perks - possibly offering protection against ovulation-related infertility.
But before you grab that half gallon of ice cream and a can of whipped cream and get busy, keep in mind that just one serving of high-fat dairy - as in one glass of whole milk - will net you any potential fertility benefits without the obvious definite drawbacks (extra pounds, which can actually decrease fertility). What's more, if you're trying to drop a lot of preconception pounds, you should probably get all your dairy the fat-free way (check with your doctor).

I haven't heard that before, and have read that if you're ttc a girl that a diet high in dairy and calcium is recommended... where did you find/hear this? I eat a ton of cheese slices too!

never knew what you ate could affect your fertility like that. My first two were conceived first try and I only drink SKIM and definitely ate cheese! Hmm...but maybe it does work for some people?!

I think there are all sorts of stories and theories everywhere.
I know my dad went on a HIGH full fat dairy diet when they couldn't get pregnant with me and I popped up right after.
So... who knows?
I think as long as you are eating in healthy manner, all will be well.

I have read this too. Here is a link to the Harvard study.
Changes to Diet and Lifestyle May Help Prevent Infertility from Ovulatory Disorders - October 31, 2007 -2007 Releases - Press Releases - Harvard School of Public Health

The women with the highest fertility diet scores ate less trans fat and sugar from carbohydrates, consumed more protein from vegetables than from animals, ate more fiber and iron, took more multivitamins, had a lower BMI, exercised for longer periods of time each day, and, surprisingly, consumed more high-fat dairy products and less low-fat dairy products.
