I am not sure if I will go to see an RE since we did get pg pretty easily (~5 months) but the OB suggested it might be worthwhile because they thought I might have insulin resistance, or maybe PCOS...I haven't had any PCOS symptoms like not ovulating or elevated androgens but they're just going by the insulin thing...my cycles are a bit long and I ovulate at about CD20-25 but I still ovulate each month.
Anyway, I called the RE and she said they weren't sure if it would be covered by my insurance since my policy has an exclusion on any treatment for infertility.
The policy says the definition of infertility is one year of trying w/o conceiving.
Since I have not been trying for one year, and I did conceive ~5 months into trying, I don't think that applies to me. And I'm not even looking at treatment at this point, just blood tests and maybe U/S to rule out PCOS or other problems...but the RE still said that they weren't sure even that would be covered. I called the insurance co and they refused to tell me anything...they just kept saying it depends on what the billing code is, which of course I don't know.
If it is not covered, the RE said it would be about $700 just for one visit, bloodwork and U/S. Which I guess I can afford but I don't want to waste that $$ for something not really necessary.
Anyway, sorry for this long and rambling post. My questions were 1) Does anyone else have insurance with an infertility exclusion that still covered RE visits to do a workup? and 2) Do you think it's worth taking the risk of having to pay out of pocket?
