My health insurance premiums just went up by 28%. And my insurance sucks. We have a thousand dollar deductible per person. It only covers 50% on prescriptions. Plus, it doesn't cover any infertility treatments. The infertility stuff I can deal with but the premiums are crazy. I can't wait till I don't need the maternity coverage anymore.

I hope this isn't too personal of a question but I am just curious if everyone is spending as much as we are. (I kept it anonymous.)

I chose the I don't live in the US. I checked with DF and he said that he has a good health insurance but of course the deductible is 1000 dollars too, can't remember if it's per person or per family. I'm also not sure if that includes the visits to the doctor. I know you have to pay 25 dollars every time you visit but not sure if you have to pay more until you reach the deductible. I can't remember how much his premiums are.

I like copays like that better. We pay 30% for each visit. I sometimes don't even know why we have health insurance. But I have had too many crazy things happen to not have it.

exactly! It is too expensive, the deductible is way too big, by the time you reach it, you'll probably get into the new year period so you have to start paying again. But of course, I wouldn't feel good if I didn't have it, who knows what can happen.

We have HMO through my work (since DH is out of work). It is $215 and going up $20 this year, although I marked $200 less....I forgot I had added him on. I think our deductible is $400/person and $1000 max out of pocket. I did the 'calculate estimate of procedure' for maternity, vaginal delivery, and I should just pay $1000-1200, so we will see. Oh and only $30 at the first appt and then $30 at the pp appt.

I am really lucky to have really good insurance. I can't tell you how much I pay a month, I'm not exactly sure...it just gets pulled out of my pay check. My district has one of the lowest salaries around, but I really can't complain b/c the insurance makes up for it.

I use to have GREAT insurance with my job before I left to be a SAHM. They covered my entire pregnancy and delivery costs and it was cheap to boot.
DH's company doesn't offer insurance so we only pay for DD through a private insurance company. She is $65/month for medical/dental but it has a high deductable.. $5,000 I think? Check ups have no co-pay but it's $25 co-pay for doctors visits otherwise. $200 for emergency room visit.
It pretty much doesn't cover anything though unless we've met the deductible.

So me & DH don't have health insurance because the plan we could afford barely covers anything and doesn't even cover maternity. Since I have asthma they jack up the premium. In case of an emergency there is a free clinic near me funded by a church that i'll go too if i need something.

Mine is none for premiums, but pretty expensive when you actually use it. It doesn't cover infertility either. They define infertility in the booklet as unable to get pregnant in a year of TTC. Does anyone know what happens if you have a m/c with exclusions like that? Does that mean my "year" starts over again? I'm tempted to go get some bloodwork done but I'm scared it won't be covered.

DH's insurance is really good. I guess its a perk a guy gets when he's in a position to be shot on the job (DH is a police officer). I opted out of insurance at my job because DH's is good. We have very reasonable co-pays with no deductible.

I would call them to ask about whether or not your year starts over (I would think it wouldn't start over, but I'm not sure) and to see if your bloodwork is covered. Insurance companies can be so picky about what they cover.

Our insurance is pretty good but our out of pocket expenses this year has been over $2000 already this year. (DH had major surgery this year, without that our costs would be closer to $400) We only have a catastrophic deductible and it is $5000. We pay around $150 a month for the whole family. It also has covered my infertility testing and will cover treatment except for IUI and IVF, which I don't expect I will need. We can get a higher option but it will cost us over $2000 a year so I don't think we will change. DH and I are both federal employees so we have lots of options.

ETA - Our premiums are going up 12% next year.

We have pretty awesome insurance I guess. The premiums are right around $65 a month and then we have a $400 deductible. After we hit our deductible we don't have a copay that we have to pay at each visit or anything.... they say they cover 85% and that they doctor will bill us for the remaining 15% but every doctor we've been to so far has considered the insurance as payment in full. They don't cover infertility treatments, but they do cover testing, and my doctor has been really great about coding things so that insurance covers a large portion of everything. I consider myself very lucky to have such great coverage.

Back when I had health insurance (and this is what BF has now), it was $46 every 2 weeks with a $250 deductible, $10 office visit co-pay ($15 for specialists) and most tests/treatments were covered at 80/20. But that's just for an individual (since we're not married yet).
