Ok, I seem to be BD in the right times although we are not actually timing when we BD.

I see some of you talk about an every other day schedule but I can't seem to find info online on why we are to BD every other day. Can someone explain this?

The general theory is that the 24 hour break in between BD sessions allows the sperm to build back up.

I don't bd every other day. I personally think the every other day recommendation is outdated information. They used to say that bding ever other day would improve your sperm count but I have read a ton of articles and news stories on this and newer evidence supports bding every day. It improves sperm quality because your dh is ejaculating out the old/damaged sperm and making way for the new sperm and to me it just makes sense. If your dh has low sperm count your doctor might recommend every other day.

I think a legitimate reason for doing every other day is to make sure you don't burn out. If you are bding every day you can get tired and fizzle out at just the wrong time.

What I think is a good plan is to bd every other day until you get close to ovulating (either a positive opk or when you expect to be ovulating) and then bd every day until you are sure you ovulated.

I agree with Patti - this is my understanding as well. Unless your partner has an issue with fertility, everyday is fine. However, if you don't know exactly when you will ovulate that can be a challenge after awhile. So every other day is enough to make sure you've good pretty good timing - and generally that is good enough.

A nice compromise is the "sperm meets egg" plan that Nikki mentioned this month. Every other day starting on CD10 just to make sure you don't miss ovulation, then everyday once you get a + OPK, until you see your sustained thermal shift.

I agree with Patty. I think bding every other day is good if you are one that knows bding every day will burn you out and you might miss your O date all together, but if you know when you are going to O then I say bd every day if you are up to it.
