Just in the last 6 months or so I have started spotting 2-3 days before AF starts. I have NEVER had this before so it concerns me because I have read that it can mean you have low progesterone. I brought it up at my yearly appt which was on Oct 1st and my Doc didn't say anything about it. Well I am concerned because low progesterone can make it impossible for the fertilized egg to implant, or cause miscarriage. If there is a problem I would like to be proactive and do something about it to hopefully prevent that from happening.

Anyone have else have the spotting? Anyone have it and gotten pregnant and everything was ok?

Should I call my doc and insist on getting it tested or what? I am not a person who sticks up for myself usually but on this I just might be able to do it! Please tell me your thoughts!

I have spotting before AF, and have for several months now. I didn't use to have it either. However, I got my hormone levels checked a while back and mine were fine. I think it can indicate low progesterone, but it doesn't necessarily always mean that. I am not positive though! Sorry I don't have a better answer for you! I think if you are concerned, though, you could just ask you doctor to do the simple blood test and find out for sure. Then your mind would be at ease! Good luck!

I am interested in this too because my LP's coming off BCP were a bit shorter than I would have liked (11 days) so I took B6 and the next cycle was 13 days then the next I had a chemical pg so not really sure... but I have always had spotting prior to AF as well. Teresa said they had a thread going on this subject on the TTC board so maybe she can point us to the thread?

Some of the other ladies who have more experience than me should weigh in on this, but I don't think you should be too worried about a couple of days spotting since you LP looks to be normal length.

However, if you are concerned you can go to your doctor and have them test your progesterone level in the luteal phase and find out for sure!

I have spotting before AF, but it seems like only since we have been TTC. Maybe because I am off the pill now. Anyway, I seem to spot because I have a short luteal phase, but your luteal phase seems fine. Ask your doctor about it if you are worried, but I bet it is nothing.

Hmm. I have spotting before AF, maybe 1-2 days before she arrives, and it's very light. Typically I only notice it after BDing or if I check my CP (which I typically stop doing after Oing). I have a 13 day LP, never gotten my hormone levels checked, and never been pregnant. I had a shorter LP up to about 6 months after stopping BC pills, but now I seem to have gotten more normal with time (I haven't taken anything other than daily vitamins since). I feel like I'm normal with my pre-AF spotting, but who knows?

I'd definitely suggest getting a doc to check things out if you're concerned, though. If anything, do it simply for peace of mind. But it seems like your LP is fine.

I have read the same thing. Here is my thoughts, if this is something that is concerning you go get some blood work done and see if you have a problem. If it isn't a problem no big deal but you aren't sitting around wondering or being irritated with your doctor for not looking into this for you. I am very vocal with my doctors because when I was ttc Jeremy I had three losses and every time I would mention something like checking my progesterone they would act like I was stupid. They wouldn't run any tests for me and just weren't very proactive with helping me find answers.

I won't put up with that anymore. Now I have sort of drug my feet on getting into the fertility doc myself but that was my choice. My doc would have referred me whenever I was ready for it. I just think your doc should do what you ask and care about looking into things that are concerning you. You may very well be just fine but no point sitting around worrying about it.
