I can never get this straight...is there any point to BD'ing to catch an eggie the day your chart goes biphasic? I'm not really sure if the temp rise means the egg has been released and may still be around or if it means that it's too late to be fertilized if it hasn't already.

It could still be around but definitely released. I would have sex as insurance.

Yes if you are up to it because 1. The egg can live up to 24 hours so it's possible to catch the egg after the rise and 2. It's possible that your temp will crash and that it's to your actual O date.

Yes, because progesterone starts to rise just before ovulation - which can mean your temp can also rise just before ovulation as well. The temperature sign does not tell you the *exact* day of ovulation, just a really good estimate. It gives you a window of a few days during which ovulation was likely.
You should continue to BD for a day or two after your cervical mucus dries up, no matter how the thermal shift lines up with that. The egg is usually released on the last day CM that makes you feel wet or slippery, the first day of dry up, or the second day of dry up. Once the egg is released, it can also live for up to 24 hours. And in the rare situation that a second egg will be released, it will happen within 24 hours of the first one. So yes, keep BDing!

Looking at her chart, it really seems like this would be a great time to BD. (My other guess would've been on CD 17 but the OPK disagrees with it). With any luck, O should start happening within a couple days. Since sperm lives around 2-3 days within CM (5 max) I'd say it could be a good idea to BD soon.
As a side-question, how early can a temp shoot shoot up prior to O? In other words, how many days can progesterone start to rise before ovulation? Would anybody know? It's kind of relevant here because OP's previous cycle had 3 temps above her coverline (2 temps way above it) before an O occured.

Usually not more than a day or two. But then you also have to remember that temps can be affected by other things (sleeping with extra blankets on, alcohol consumption, being ill, etc). So a rise isn't automatically due to progesterone. You could have one high temp from being slightly sick, and two because progesterone kicked in - you know? That's why the CM pattern is so important, since that isn't affected by as many outside variables. When temps and CM don't agree, always best to go by CM.

Dang. I think I need to relearn some things. I usually stop insisting on BD'ing by the day after I get the temp rise. If memory serves me right, my CM usually dries up right around that time, too, but it's been very dry overall this cycle, so I'm a little unsure on that count.
I did try to BD tonight, but it wasn't in the cards.

Do you have a copy of Taking Charge of Your Fertility? I HIGHLY recommend this book. Its a GREAT tool to understanding your body, whether you are trying to get pregnant or trying to prevent. Its just amazing (it comes with pics of CM too!). Its about $30 new, or you can check craigslist (got mine for $10) or the library (but there may be a waiting list). GL!

Thanks, Candace. I do have the book but mostly skimmed through it. I remember the CM pictures, though. I'll dig it out this weekend and get to reading.

I agree with Shawna and Teresa. I don't always bd after I ovulate but I like to. It is a good idea to keep going for a few days after your o date just to make sure you cover your bases.
