Have you thought about taking a childbirth class? I know it is early but a lot of us like to read up on things in advance. Do you think you will take one? If you are thinking about a particular childbirth method such as Lamaze, Bradley, Hypnobirthing ,etc which one appeals to you most?

I would like to, but our financial budget probably wont allow for it. I have a free pass to some class they hold weekly (well I think its always free), so I want to check that out. I thinkj childbirth classes are a great idea!

I definitely want to take some childbirth classes... I know there's no way I'm doing a natural delivery... but I'd like to take the classes anyway and learn some ways to cope with labor until the drugs kick in!

Plus, it kind of feels like a right of passage to me in a way... is that weird?

I have taken a childbirth class before so I don't think I need one. I do want to have natural childbirth. I think I like the Lamaze method the best but I kind of use a combination of things to deal with the pain.

LOL. Well, for some reason I was asked this question all of the time when I was pg with DD. I don't know why people ask if you're going to take Lamaze classes all of the time. For us, I chose not to and don't you know when I told people this, they gasped in horror at me. Like I was a bad mom already, lol. It was very expensive and I didn't feel that I needed it. But, I had gone to some childbirth classes a year earlier with a friend who I was a labor coach for. I had done tons of research and watched some movies as well. I did feel that it would be helpful for DH, but my cheap side kicked in and we didn't go. Don't get me wrong, I think that they are helpful and very beneficial, but I felt pretty comfortable with the knowledge that I already knew. I did end up having a crazy delivery, but I pretty much labored at home and arrived at the hospital at 7cm. I did a combination of a birthing inspired yoga, in and out of the the tub/shower, and other stuff to get through the pain. DD made here, so we were good to go. So, for myself, I don't think that I would take classes when I get pg again.

Sorry for the long message. I'm not trying to offend anyone, just wanted to let you know what worked for me.

The childbirth class I took was kind of a generic class. It wasn't a Lamaze class and just gave you a general idea of what to expect. I didn't find it particularly helpful. I did find that the patterned breathing was helpful but you don't really need to take a class to learn it.

I didn't take a breastfeeding class either and did great with nursing Jeremy so I do agree that some of this is unnecessary. I think posting on JM can be just as helpful. I have gotten a lot of great advice from my online friends that really helped probably more than the classes.

I didn't take a class when I was pregnant with my son but I might want to take one if I ever get pregnant again.

David was a pain med free birth, but much to my dismay all future births have to be c section so no more classes for me.

I took one when I was pregnant with Jeremy, so I probably won't take another one.
