I've been charting a looong time (feb08) and have had a short luteal phase on every cycle. I think maybe one or two has been anovulat---can never spell that word! You know, without ovulation....but all the others have had a temp shift but fall and I get AF from day 8-10.
Anyhoo, had my bloods done in August and my 7dpo (based on +opks and temp shift not CD21) came back with a progesterone level of 5. My doc said it means I don't ovulate!!! I managed to get her to give me some progesterone though so have had two cycles with extended LP's
1ed85b Ovulation Charts
thats what i read you are supposed to cure a short luteal phase with....but if I don't ovulate like she says then there isn't much point. (She said she will refer me for Clomid but wanted me to ttc a bit longer, 6mths, first!)
I just don't get it though.......why do I get a temp shift then? Is there a difference between low progesterone meaning no ovulation and yes ovulating but progesterone falling fast?
Looking at my Aug chart (i don't know how to get fertility friend to show older charts?) the day I had my test (7dpo) was when my temps had dropped and my AF came the next day (8dpo) so is it possible that if I had had it done on CD21 (2dpo) it would have shown that I HAD ovulated?

I am really happy and excited to be having a baby although knowing Im going it alone this time is a bit daunting and scary!

Wow... I'm not sure about all of that. Hopefully someone with a bit more knowledge than me will be able to give you an answer.

I just wanted to say that I hope you get things sorted out very soon so you can get that BFP!

Hmm, I am wondering if you could be ovulating, but having low progesterone. Either way, I think your doctor is right on treating you because if your progesterone level is that low then you are going to have problems sustaining a pregnancy. I think taking the progesterone post O is a good idea and hopefully that'll be enough to fix the problem.

It sure looks like from your charts that your are ovulating. From what I have read over 5 indicates ovulation but it needs to be higher than that to maintain a pregnancy. Your doctor makes me frustrated. I don;t understand why she won't refer you yet.

I'm sorry your dealing with that, unfortunately I know nothing that could possibly help but your chart definitely looks like your O'ing!

Yes! I had a crazy last cycle. It was my first cycle not breastfeeding. On CD 16, I had a thermal shift and fertile mucus, but didn't ovulate till CD 45 or so. I wasted so much on pregnancy tests!

This cycle I had a shift 2 days before I ovulated.

Your chart looks like you have been ovulating. I know one lady that seems to not be ovulating right now, and her past three or four cycles had no temp shift. I would think if you didn't ovulate, that's how yours would look.

I am sorry for getting to your post so late. I have done some reading on progesterone levels before because I have taken prometrium during my pregnancies. From what I have read your progesterone levels can fluctuate throughout the day. Just because your levels were 5 when they did the draw, doesn't mean they were at 5 the entire day.

Here is a link (I hate referring people off site but this is a good article on this.)
Progesterone Levels & Treatments - iVillage Your Total Health

I think your progesterone levels were high enough to indicate ovulation occurred but they may be too low to sustain pregnancy. I think using progesterone supplements is controversial. A lot of doctors don't think you should take them or think they won't help. I have taken prometrium with all of my pregnancies though and I feel it is what has stopped my recurrent miscarriages.

I also have read good things about Clomid for improving progesterone levels so I think that would be a good option too.

Thanks everyone! I really do hope my doc is wrong about not ovulating. I knew my progesterone level would be low because I also knew my AF would come the day after my 7dpo test! I thought if you didn't ovulate you get non-ovulation charts (like you said Spyctre).

Just gonna look at that link now Patty. Thanks!
