You know how there are the law firm commercials that come on where they're like If you took, I dunno, Fen-phen and you experienced (fill in the blank side effects), you could be entitled to money?
So there has been this commercial that been airing a lot recently for a law firm about Yaz & Yasmin. I noticed it because I took Yaz for a few months, so when I heard it mentioned, my ears naturally pricked up. I knew it probably wouldn't apply to me because I took it for such a short period of time.
But anyway, they're basically saying that Yaz & Yasmin have been associated with an increased risk of:
Stroke
Pulmonary Embolism
Deep Vein Thrombosis
Heart Attack
Gallbladder Disease
I am curious if this is a regional commercial...? Like if it's only being aired in my part of the country... and if so, why? I'm sure women all over have taken Yaz & Yasmin. Why is the first time I'm hearing about this from a law firm and not the freaking FDA?
It also begs the larger question... what the heck is up with birth control causing all of THAT?! What's in the recipe that makes all of THAT happen?

I have heard the same commercial here in South Carolina. Matter of fact it was on this morning. Wait, last night I was watching a show from last night.

I have also seen that in Kansas, I have never been on any type of BC so I didn't pay too much attention to it, but I know it was for the Yaz kind.

I've been seeing that one for awhile here. I'm pretty sure you can still get prescribed both of those still since I still see ads for them all the time. I took both of them at some point.

I saw that one a couple days ago. Those commercials always come on around 10pm when I'm in bed watching tv. Oh yeah and I'm in Canada but I don't know which network they come on.

Right on. I realize they are all for different law firms... but I was just curious if it was airing everywhere.
It just caught me off guard, you expect to hear that sort of thing about like diet pills or whatever... but I never expected it with bcp.

Yeah, we have that commercial here too. I took Yaz for about a year, so it got my attention too, but I am not worried about it causing those effects for me since I haven't been on it in a while and I am fine! As far as I know, that is the only BCP with increased risk of those because of a different hormone it uses. All BCP has some risk of clots/heart attack/stroke etc. but that one more so.

Yeah, I knew about the risks with bcp... but I'd never heard of one causing Gallbladder Disease!!
There must be a good number of people who have had these problems for it to rise to the level of lawyers getting involved like that.

The commericals are on here as well. As someone else said, all BCP have risks for cardiovascular problems (i.e. stroke etc) but the gallbladder thing is new. I looked some stuff up on Yaz and apparently these problems were a lot more common in women who were unhealthy to begin with or had risk factors...i.e. obesity or smoking which you are never supposed to do while on BCP.

I have that commercial in GA too. I think its crap because bcp say it may cause all of that, so you already know the risks. They even say it in the ad commercials for the different pills. People like that are part of the reason health insurance and prescriptions are so expensive. IMO

I have seen this too. I believe they are only recommending it for ladies with PMDD but I am not sure if I have it mixed up with something else.

I've seen the commercials here too. I used to take BC, but my husband and I are at a point in our lives where we don't care if we have more children or not so I have stopped taken BC for a long time now. My visits from AF were better on BC, but I'm not as worried about what it may be doing to my body. (btw I don't take any medication unless I really need to . . . including tylenol)

Commercials for this are aired in TX and LA as well. YAZ is prescribed for PMDD and isn't designed for people who need just a regular birth control. I don't know about the Yasmin though. Although all BCPs have side effects, the number of women who have been hit with the more major side effects is much higher with these two and that's why there is a lawsuit. (I've been researching because I was on YAZ for a couple of years.)
