I'm going to start charting and temping with my new cycle. I know that I have to get the special thermometer and that I have to take my temp before I get up in the a.m. (at the same time every day).

If I do this every day, and plug all of my info into FF, what will the chart really show me? Will it indicate when ovulation MIGHT happen? Or does it only show WHEN it happened? I was looking at several charts and they're confusing -- does a "good chart" have lots of highs and lows? It's all so confusing!!

Patty convinced me that this was supposed to be fun, so let's see what happens!

If I am completely accurate. Based on your information (how many days in your cycle, etc.) FF will tell you when you MIGHT O. By putting in your temps you find out WHEN you finally did O. I would say it takes a month or two to get into the groove of knowing when you O to better your chances of getting a BFP (or not, if you are not trying). A lot of the girls on here use OPK's along with charting and that helps them know when they will O and increases their chances.

Oh, also wanted to add. It is fun and very addicting!

Yahoo! Glad you came over. FF will tell you when you could be fertile. I don't remember if they tell you this your first cycle or not. They use your previous charts to determine this so if it is your first cycle it might not be accurate.

A good looking chart is biphasic, which just means two phases.

Here is an example of that. This is one of my old charts.

See how all the temps to the left of the crosshairs are lower and all the temps to the right are higher. That is what you want to see.

Don't worry if you know what you are doing right now. FF will figure it out for you and we will help too.

Welcome to the charting board!!!!

Good to have you here. FF is a good way of keeping track of your cycle. Dont expect too much on your first cycle, cause like patty said... FF uses previous cycles to determine when you should be fertile.

Thanks! This will be our third cycle of TTC but it will be the first one I chart my temps for. I just bought my new basal thermometer today (it's even got a pink cap -- yay!). I tested it out -- gotta make sure it worked before the crack of dawn tomorrow -- and it has a reading that goes into the hundredths. Patty's chart only has temps that go into the tenths. Did I buy the wrong thermometer? It specifically said "basal" and "ovulation"on it. Should I just round my numbers to the nearest tenth -- and if so, will that mess everything up?

I would round to the nearest tenth, it's much easier to read! Don't worry a lot of the bb thermometers have the hundreth place.. I just round yay for charting! I just started temping this month and with the opks I was able to know I was ov but the temps really proved it. I do a lot of chart stalking and overlay my chart with a preggos chart! That way I can see how mine compares to a pos pregnancy cycle! Good luck! Also the chart training from ff is super helpful!

Mine goes to the nearest hundredth too. Unless I am confused. Mine temps are like this 97.24 (two decimal places). If you look at my chart you can see it marks it in between the tenth degrees.

I would not round your temps. Your thermometer is perfect and more accurate than one that reads just to the tenth degree.

I would not recommend rounding. Your chart will be more accurate if it goes to the hundredth place. I mean, I don't think you absolutely have to have a thermometer this sensitive but if you do it is better and I would just go with the temp you see and not round. You may be able to see your shift more clearly this way.

I didn't have to round it this morning -- FF put the temp dot in the right spot and took into account the hundredths reading. One day down, 40 more to go!
