Wow. I'm so angry right now that if I accidentally type some swears and it gets starred out I'm sorry. Went to my doc for follow up on my blood work and everything came back good except for my testosterone which she wants to test again. My u/s got moved up to next Monday and she said she can't diagnose me with PCOS until then. Up until this point we're all good.
Then, I bring out my charts and tell her that I haven't had a period or ovulated and I'm on CD 45 and if if I can get something to bring on my period and start a new cycle. She actually got mad at me! She said if you're trying it makes no sense to want your period to come so what would you like me to do? I told her I'd like to start a new cycle so I have a chance to ovulate, she cuts me off, tells me my only option to bring on my period is the BCP and how does that make sense if we want to get pg? Then she says she has PCOS patients that go for 6 mos without ovulating and that this is normal, so she said I need to wait at least 6 mos without a period before doing anything. Then has the nerve to tell me that if I have PCOS I won't ovulate for at least 6 mos coming off BCP, so I refer to my charts again and tell her that my charts show that I've O'd the last 3 so that information is not right for me. She gets mad all over again and says that she still doesn't understand why I want a period if I want to get pg... I tell her it's not just because my period hasn't come, it's because I know that I have O'd. She says, you told me before you were irregular and you are only 2 days past your previous longest cycle. I said yes, but the latest I O'd before was CD 23, and since I'm on CD 45 with no O it appears so far to be an anovulatory cycle.
She had attitude and was so snotty! Then I tell her that I know of girls who have had prescriptions to bring on their period, and she said I bet they didn't have PCOS or were trying to get pg, then asked me what they could have possibly been prescribed... so I tell her what I know about Prometrium and Provera and she says she'll have to look into them. I tell her I've been told Prometrium would be safe if I had O'd and got pg, she said she was willing to look into it but not right now.
So, after my U/S I'm supposed to book another appt with her to go over everything and she said I might need a GYN, that was about the only + thing that came out of this, but if my U/S shows nothing then she said she won't be able to prescribe me anything and won't refer me to anyone.
I don't know what to do, but I can honestly say that I knew more than she did! When it came to my temps, my cycle, prescriptions... she was clueless! I can't tell you how many times she said "what would you like me to do? Put you on BCP and prevent you from getting pg? That makes no sense Tammy, there is nothing I can do for you." And said in a tone that told me she thought I was stupid and who was I to question her.
Needless to say I left there in tears and don't know what to do from here. It's very hard to find a new doctor here, I've already called around to probably over 20 offices and no doctors are taking new patients. And of course there is the chance you get into a new doc and you get the same kind.
I know this, if I get pg, I will NOT be going to her for anything!

That is horrible, Tammy!! Is there not another DR in the practice? I would still continue to call around, you never know, something may open. Are you on a waiting list at other offices? That way, while you are dealing with the witch of a DR, you are keeping your options open. Girl, I am so sorry she was so rude to you!!!!
I know more than she does and I am definitly not making the money that DR is making! My only advice is to ride this horrid DR out and pray something opens somewhere else. I wish I had more advice, I really do, but with not a whole heck of lot of options....I dont know what to suggest, really. I really wish I could bring your period on for you, because I can only imagine how frustrating this is for you.

I'm so sorry you had a bad appointment. Is it possible for you to look at a different city for a doc? Maybe lethbridge or calgary? I know it's a long drive but it may be worth it to get a doc to listen. It's what I did except I only have an hour drive. Do you have a public health clinic there? They might know of an office accepting new patients.

OMGosh I am fuming for you! It's not what she said it was the fact that she was rude about how she said it. She could have toned this with compassion instead of the "hey I am the doc what do you know" attitude I am hearing.
I would get on the phone and start calling until you can find another doctor that will treat you better. (I know you said you called a bunch but keep calling.) I know I drive an hour to my RE and when I do get pregnant I will be driving an hour to my OBGYN. I would rather make the drive than be stuck seeing a doctor I don't like.

That is infuriating. What a horrible way to behave, knowing what you've been through. I would find a new doctor as soon as you can!!!

That is horrible! What a jerk! I am so sorry Tammy and I can honestly say I kind of know how you feel............my Doctor brushed off all of my concerns, etc and didn't even let me show her my charts.
I guess we'll both be looking for new doctors!!!

I'm so sorry. I'm fuming for you. What a dumb doctor! Is there any way you can get on a waiting list or cancelation list at another facility? I would keep calling around. You definitely need to see a different doctor.

That is TERRIBLE. I'm sorry, but she has no right to have that snotty, high and mighty attitude with you when it sounds as if she doesn't even know what she is doing. How irritating! I know you said there are no other doctors, but there has to be someone else! I wouldn't go back to her, ever.

hi tammy,
im so sorry that you had such a bad appt.
i honestly would try your hardest to find a new dr.
in all actuality she shouldn't even be a dr. in the first place. im even suprised she even passed her boards to become a dr.
i really hope that you find a very good dr. very soon so that you can get your cycles figured out and hold on to those bfps.
Lots of HUGS !!!
Good luck and i hope that you feel better soon with a brand new dr. that will treat you very well.

OH MY GOSH. That is horrible. You do not have to put up with treatment and ignorance like that!!!
If you want a good doctor in Edmonton who understands charting and fertility, go see Dr. Mary Ellen Haggerty. She specializes in the Natural Procreative Technologies or Creighton Model, which is a mucus only fertility charting system. The whole point of what she does is to use fertility charting as a diagnostic tool, to identify problems and monitor the success of treatment. She specializes in treating reproductive disorders like PCOS.
Seriously. I drove all the way from Lethbridge just to see her for my PCOS, and then she worked with me by phone after that. She's very good!

P.S. Make sure you ask for Dr. Haggerty and tell them it's for NaPro.

I only pray you are able to find someone else immediately! There is always that chance to get another B*TCH but hey its a fresh start and it can't hurt to try and find someone else.. at least that way there is still the chance of getting someone better! Big hugs and good luck!!
