I have a quick question for you ladies. It's time to start OPK's for this cycle, and I wanted your opinion. I had always been told that you should use afternoon urine for OPKs, but my RE recommends using FMU if you are having IUI done. I am just using Clomid this cycle....no IUI, but I wondered what was the best thing to do. Should I use afternoon urine (I might not be able to test at the same time every day either) or should I use FMU? What's your opinion?

Hmm, I have always heard to use afternoon urine too, i think b/c FMU can give you false positives because FMU may have some LH in it regardless of whether you are Oing or not. I hope that's right, anyone please feel free to correct me if I am wrong. But anyway, that's what I have always heard, but I would usually say to go with what your RE says. I hope someone else has had more experience with this!

I think the reason that afternoon urine is recommended is because your LH surge usually happens in the morning and it can take a few hours for the hormone to show up in your urine.

Hope that helps! Good luck!

I always test some time after noon. Latest has been 4 but generally 12 or 12:30.

I take mine mid morning and mid afternoon. I have never had a problem detecting my surge. Now, I have sometimes found that I got false positives when I took it first thing in the morning so I prefer to use midmorning pee. I normally wait to see what my afternoon opk does though before I decide it's a positive.

I think for gals having a hard time detecting their surge it might be worth trying fmu.
