Hi Everybody!. I posted my intro early this morning with a couple questions but after having all day to think about it, I came up with a few more

I was supposed to start charting BBT yesterday right? (my period started yesterday). My periods are VERY irregular though!. I was 18 days late with this one. My cycle length was 31 days last month and 49 days this month. Is that going to affect anything at all?

Also, my very first dot is on the 13th of December slot. My period started December 12th. I didn't take my first temperature until 5:00am on the 13th though. Should I leave the dot where it is then? or should I move it over to the 12th?

And, I think I mentioned this above but didn't put it into a question cause I thought it would be okay to do. But since I woke up facing away from my night stand, when I woke up at 5:00am I had to roll over and then reach out for the thermometer. Was that okay to do or should I try my best to stay facing my nightstand every night?. I know your not supposed to move around too much but I don't know if rolling over is considered too much activity right before you take your temperature.

Also, I was up pretty much every hour last night. I didn't do anything but look at the time and go back to sleep, but I read that you are supposed to have a good 3 hour stretch of uninterupted sleep before taking your temperature. Since I was up for a couple seconds once an hour (or once every 2 hours or so), should I have still taken my temperature, or does this morning's reading not count?.

Sorry for the load of questions again!

Thank you so much in advance for your help!

BBTing while AF is visiting is optional, although some prefer it but is not required. Its fine with the only movement is reaching for your therm. Once you start your BBT at a time you have to stick with it throughout the cycle. if you happen to sleep late or to early there is a BBT adjuster calculator i use : Basal Body Temperature Adjuster - WhenMyBaby as long as you get atleast 3 hrs or more sleep you can temp.

Welcome to charting, your going to love it and how it shows you whats going on with your body, although you will need some patience while waiting for patterns to appear.

Rolling over to get your thermometer is fine, I have to do that pretty much every morning. The main thing is to stay consistent with your time that you temp each morning, pick a time that is always earlier than you have to get up (you can always go back to sleep on days you can sleep in).

If you have a night where you keep waking up you can mark the 'sleep deprived' box to show your lack of solid sleep and enter the temp you took at your normal time. I've done this a few times with no issues.

If af started on Dec 12th you can go back and mark that day as your first cycle day, you don't need a temp to have it as the start of your cycle. But it is best to have the correct CD 1 day entered. Just leave the temperature dot on the 13th and leave the temp blank on the 12th.

Good luck with charting and I hope you find it interesting and fun

Keep your dot where it is since that temp was taken today. I know a lot of people don't even bother taking temps during AF. I would mark on there that AF came yesterday so then it will show today as being CD 2. Does that make sense?

I don't have any more to add but I wanted to welcome you to the charting board. Try not to stress out too much about getting everything perfect. You should still be able to see a pattern. Make sure you are charting your other fertile signs, especially your cm. That will make a big difference in interpreting your chart. If you can't figure out how to chart your cervix position don't worry about it but definitely make sure your cm info is on your chart. If you need help just ask. We like answering questions over here.
