I have been endeavoring to take my temperature at the same time in the morning which has been working relatively fine but with DH's alarm clock going off 35 minutes before mine this morning I wasn't so sure it was going to work (DH's alarm clock exists to wake me up so I can boot him out of bed). I'm realizing now that I'm going to have to move my temp taking time to right before DH has to get up OR take it at 3am since it's not uncommon for me to wake then and it's often when baby is going to wake if he doesn't sleep through the night.

Anyway ..

So I woke at 2:45am and being uncertain how the morning was going to play out I took my temp figuring worst case scenario would be that I could use the BBT adjuster to get an estimate of what it would have been at 5:20am for my chart.

My temp at 2:45am was 97.33, at 5:20am it was 97.27 - not even close to what I knew the temp adjuster would say as it had gone down instead of going up .. a lot. What happened between the times included me nursing the baby, going to the bathroom, having to speak briefly to DH about the blankets he was accusing me of taking off him when in fact he was the one hoarding most of them, shoving DH at his first alarm, shoving him several times at his second alarm before having to remind him that he told me to make sure he got out of bed. I was thinking all the activity might raise my temp more than it would have been had I been resting so the lower temp really surprised me. Would speaking and or sleeping with my mouth open have caused such a reading? (It might be noteworthy that we heat with wood and the wood burner is down the other end of the house from our bedroom so our bedroom is quite cold - that being the reason I had to speak to DH about the blankets ).

So ... here's the thing, after all that activity and talking, my temp was 97.27. The adjustment based on the 2:50am reading says 97.83. Both are within my pre-O range so far, just at opposite ends of it. Which should I use? The link to my chart is in my sig if that helps.

I'm sorry that I can't help... just wanted to let you know I feel your pain with having to work around DH's alarm to be able to temp. Hopefully someone will be able to help you with this-- I think your question is useful to all of us since I'm sure at least one time or another we've had one of those nights and didn't know what to do with our temp in the morning. Good luck...

I appreciate your empathy The alarm wouldn't be so bad if he actually got up to it himself rather than needing me to wake him and push him out of bed.

meh .. you know what .. I realize this one temp doesn't mean much by itself in the scheme of things anyway so I've noted the two temps and the circumstances in the notes section and I think I'll leave it blank for now. I'm really more interested in the next couple of temps anyway and I'm going to change my temp time a little to make it easier to be consistent.

I realized after I replied to this that FF gave me one of those little "tips" things they put at the top of your page... and it said "which temp should I use? one in the middle of the night when i wake, or one at normal time?" They said to use the one at normal time, assuming you had at least 3ish hours of sleep between the two times. I see you didn't reeeeaaaallly, but it could have been close. In that case, use the one at normal time!

I think I saw that tip too. I didn't even have close to 3 hours sleep between the two though because of being up and about and nursing.

I had most of my temps in FF adjusted to 5:20 but switched them all back today to their original readings at the various times so the only solid dots I have are for those taken at 2:50 and 2:45 which is my most consistent time of waking. I think I might be able to see a pattern a little better this way and might try to take my temp at that time again the next few night to see what's going on and if there is no BFP this month I'll start temping at 4:40 before DH gets up .. a far more reasonable time.

Thankyou so much for thinking of me!!
