Hi Everybody!

I am going to my OBGYN this Wednesday at 9:30 to find out some more information about my irregular cycles.....and to ask about the possibility of me having PCOS.

I would like to regulate my cycles and my ovulation. I know BC pills are prescribed alot for what I am looking for but since DH and I are going to start TTC in a couple months, BC pills are not an option for me.

Does anybody know if ther are any other options to regulate cycles and ovulation without BC pills?.

Thank you so much in advance for your help!

Well first of all, BC pills don't actually regulate anything. There is an underlying reason your cycles are irregular and the BC pill will only cover up that for as long as you take then. When when you come off, the problem is still there and your body also has to work hard to sort itself out after the synthetic hormones.

Hopefully your OB/Gyn is a more creative sort who will be interested in investigating the problem. Some are, some aren't. Once the problem is found, you can regulate your cycles by treating the actual cause of the irregularity.

There are lots of ways to regulate cycles, but it really depends on what the problem is. If cycles are irregular due to a thyroid problem, using a PCOS treatment won't do much, know what I mean? It's important to find the cause.

The BCP will regulate your period chemically and is prescribed to help women with PCOS because it temporarily shrinks the cysts that are on your ovaries. (Naturally, sometime after stopping BCP the cysts will begin to grow again.) Since you are TTC, if you do have PCOS your doctor will test to see if you are insulin resistant (if you are, you will likely be put on Metformin or something similar). If you are not, the course of treatment will really depend on the number and size of cysts. I know this answer isn't as helpful as you wish it would be, but there are a number of variables as to what will be done, depending on the situation.

Good luck and keep us posted as to what's going on!!
